Wero Payments in Germany

Wero is a European account-to-account payment service used through participating banks and apps. In Germany, a merchant considering Wero needs to check its payment provider, checkout integration and customer availability. Online acceptance is being rolled out in stages.

From bank account to checkout

Wero describes an online and mobile-commerce payment flow with the customer's banking app or Wero app. Whether a specific shop and bank already support it has to be checked at the point of sale. A merchant also needs to test confirmation, refunds and reconciliation in its own systems.

How it differs from other rails

Wero is built around bank-account payments. Cards, invoice payment and wallets can still be relevant to the same customer. The ecommerce-payments page compares the operational questions across methods. The Wero explainer describes the scheme.
