Broadridge DLR: repo on a distributed ledger
Distributed Ledger Repo (DLR) is the platform on which banks and dealers run repurchase agreements as tokens on the Canton blockchain. Broadridge, the US post-trade technology company, built it, and in June 2026 it processed 7.5 trillion dollars in repo trades.
Repo processing on the Canton blockchain
Broadridge says DLR "uses blockchain-enabled distributed ledger technology and smart contracts to automate end-to-end repo lifecycle processing." In a repo, one firm sells securities to another for cash and agrees to buy them back later. DLR separates the collateral from the trade agreement, which Broadridge says speeds up intraday repo, a trade that lasts only hours within one day. Broadridge names tokenized US Treasuries as collateral that DLR handles.
Broadridge is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BR and has around 16,000 employees in 28 countries, according to its press release on the June 2026 volume. In that month DLR processed 7.5 trillion dollars, an average of 357 billion dollars a day.
DLR on the Canton Network
DLR moved to the Canton blockchain in 2023 and is part of the Canton Network. Broadridge used the same ledger for the first US digital bond of Societe Generale, issued by SG-FORGE. Broadridge and Digital Asset, the company behind Canton, both invested in HQLAX, which runs collateral swaps on Canton.
Broadridge has extended DLR beyond US Treasuries to government bonds of other G7 countries, Finance Magnates reported. According to the same report, firms keep their existing systems and connect them to DLR.
