Data Migration in Frankfurt
Data migration moves records from one system to another without losing meaning, history or audit evidence. In Frankfurt the work comes from banks that replace core systems and from companies that change their ERP or cloud provider. AI now takes over part of it, mainly the reading of unstructured files.
What a data migration covers
A migration extracts data from the old system, maps its fields to the new one, cleans and deduplicates records, loads them and reconciles the totals before the cutover. The hard part is rarely the transfer. It is the old data: fields used for something other than their name says, duplicate customers, and documents that exist only as scans. Gateflow, a Frankfurt company, lists data extraction, deduplication, continuous updates and migrations as its knowledge-and-data service line.
Language models help where the source is unstructured. They read scanned contracts or free-text notes and fill the target fields, and conventional checks confirm the result before it is loaded.
Why Frankfurt banks plan exits
DORA, the EU regulation on digital operational resilience, applies to financial companies from January 17, 2025. Its Article 28 requires exit strategies for ICT services that support critical functions, so a bank must be able to move its data to another provider without losing continuity (Regulation (EU) 2022/2554). That turns every cloud, core banking and market data contract into a possible migration. The legacy and core banking modernization page covers the larger programs, big-bang or step by step.
Migration outside the banks
Small and midsize companies in the region migrate between ERP systems, shop systems and file servers, often with little internal IT capacity. That is the market Gateflow names on its website, with more than 20 years of IT experience behind the offer. Aeon Automation adds document intelligence, which turns incoming files into structured records.
Upcoming data and AI events in Frankfurt
Where practitioners meet
Frankfurt Data Science holds meetups on data and AI, Finteda convenes engineers and data teams from banks and funds, and the Claude Hacker House works with documents and workflows hands-on. Dates are in the calendar above.
What are the stages of a data migration?
Extraction, mapping, cleaning, loading, reconciliation and cutover. Reconciliation compares totals and sample records between the old and the new system, and the cutover is the day the new system becomes the source of truth.
Why does DORA matter for a migration?
Because a financial company has to show it could leave an ICT provider. That requires data it can export in a usable form and a tested plan to load it elsewhere.
Data Migration and Finance Loop
Finance Loop is the meeting place in Frankfurt for the engineers who move data between systems and the banks and companies that depend on it. It connects the finance, IT and AI communities, and its events bring the people who run such projects together.
Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the adoption of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
