EBS Executive School, executive education at EBS University
EBS Executive School is the executive education arm of EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht, the EBS University of Business and Law. It sees itself as "your strategic partner, supporting you on your path to personal and professional transformation", and it draws on 30 years of experience in developing professionals.
Each year about 800 people take part in its certificate programs and about 2,500 in programs it runs for companies. EBS points to the Financial Times Executive Education Ranking as a measure of its standing. The university has its campuses in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau and in Wiesbaden.
The MiCAR certificate of EBS Executive School
For people who work with crypto-assets, EBS Executive School runs the certificate program on crypto regulation, compliance and crypto-asset services, developed with the law firm HEUKING. It has three full-day modules and one evening session, 24 contact hours in person plus about 10 to 12 hours of self-study, and it is taught in German at the EBS campus and at HEUKING's Frankfurt offices.
The modules cover crypto market structures and trading platforms, the legal basis of crypto-assets and crypto services, risk management and control systems under MiCAR, distributed ledger technology and smart contracts, and token issuance and valuation. Participants who complete all modules and pass an online exam with at least 75 percent receive the title "Zertifizierte:r Experte:in für Krypto-Asset-Dienstleistungen (EBS)". The program addresses executives, compliance officers and advisory staff.
Why crypto firms need proven MiCAR knowledge
MiCAR, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (EU) 2023/1114, applies in Germany together with the Kryptomärkteaufsichtsgesetz (KMAG), which names BaFin as the competent authority. A crypto-asset service provider needs a license, and MiCAR asks for knowledge at two levels. Article 68 requires the members of the management body to have sufficient knowledge, skills and experience. Article 81 requires that staff who give advice on crypto-assets have the necessary knowledge and competence, and ESMA has issued guidelines on how firms show it.
Banks and investment firms that add crypto services can use a notification to BaFin in place of a full license, but their staff face the same knowledge duties.
