21bitcoin

21bitcoin is an Austrian app for buying and saving bitcoin, from 10 euros per purchase and with savings plans that cost no service fee from the eighth day. Each customer gets a virtual euro IBAN at VR Bank Bayern Mitte, and the bitcoin sits in cold storage at BitGo Europe or goes to a hardware wallet of the customer.

Daniel Winklhammer founded the company in Salzburg and leads it as CEO, with teams in Vienna and Munich. 21bitcoin reports more than 100,000 users in Europe, and the Austrian Financial Market Authority FMA authorized its operating company FIOR Digital GmbH under MiCA on 27 November 2025.

Bank partner and custody

The cooperative bank Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Bayern Mitte holds the euro accounts of the customers and is also a shareholder of 21bitcoin. BitGo Europe keeps the keys of the cold wallets, and 21bitcoin names an insurance of up to 250 million US dollars, subject to the policy conditions.

Authorization under MiCA

The FMA granted FIOR Digital GmbH, the company behind 21bitcoin with the register number FN 556789h, its authorization on 27 November 2025, as the notice of the FMA states. The license covers custody, the exchange of bitcoin against euros and transfers for customers.

The European register lists 29 host countries in the European Economic Area beyond Austria. Before MiCA, 21bitcoin had been registered with the FMA as a virtual asset service provider since 14 January 2022.

Euro interest and 21Private

Euro balances waiting for the next savings plan or limit order earn a variable 1.21 percent a year, which customers can convert into bitcoin every month at no charge. 21Private is the separate service of the company for clients who invest from 100,000 euros.

The 21bitcoin app

The app handles registration, identity checks, the euro account, purchases and the bitcoin wallet, and it runs on iPhone and Android phones. Smash Buy is the quick purchase in the app, while limit orders buy bitcoin automatically at a price the customer sets.

Fees and service charges

Purchases with Smash Buy cost a service fee of 1.29 or 1.49 percent depending on the tariff, and limit orders cost 1.49 percent. Euro deposits, the account and the custody of bitcoin cost nothing, and purchases carry no network fee.

Bitcoin savings plan

A savings plan buys bitcoin at fixed intervals from the euro account, with a service fee of 1.29 percent in the first week. From the eighth day on, the savings plan runs permanently at 0 percent service fee, according to the price list of 21bitcoin.

Wallet and self-custody

Customers choose between custody at BitGo Europe and a hardware wallet of their own, to which the app sends purchased bitcoin automatically. Each transfer to the own wallet costs 1,000 satoshis, and the customer alone keeps the seed phrase of that wallet.

MiCA license from the FMA

The MiCA license from the FMA replaced the national registration of 2022 as the legal basis of 21bitcoin. Through the European passport it covers customers in Austria, in Germany and in the other countries of the European Economic Area.
