BLOX
BLOX is a Dutch crypto app from Nijmegen that lets private investors buy, sell and store more than 180 crypto assets with euros. The app explains crypto assets in plain Dutch, and customers choose between a managed account that keeps their crypto separate from the assets of BLOX and an earn account that pays a weekly return.
BLOX reports more than 850,000 users, and its parent company Coinmerce holds a majority stake of 51 percent while both brands stay separate. In September 2025 the Dutch markets authority AFM authorized BLOX B.V. as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA.
Two accounts: managed and earn
In the managed account, BLOX keeps the crypto assets of each customer separately, so they are not part of the assets of BLOX itself. The account costs a subscription of one euro a month, and holdings of 10,000 euros pay one percent a year.
The earn account pays between 0.25 and 12.5 percent a year on top of the crypto assets, credited every week. The customer lends the crypto assets to BLOX Earn for this, and BLOX states that the activity falls outside the supervision of the AFM and carries risks of its own.
Authorization under MiCA
The AFM authorized BLOX B.V. under Article 63 of MiCA, and BLOX announced the license on 1 October 2025. The authorization covers exchange of crypto assets for money, custody and administration of crypto assets for clients and transfers of crypto assets on behalf of clients.
The interim register of ESMA lists 30 September 2025 as the date, the Netherlands as home member state and 29 passport countries. With this CASP license BLOX can offer its app in the other EEA states under the same conditions, while the earn account stays outside the MiCA authorization.
Owners and management
Mike Hutting leads BLOX as chief executive, and the company has its office at Kerkenbos 1025 in Nijmegen. Coinmerce took a majority stake of 51 percent in BLOX, ahead of the MiCA rules, to grow the two Dutch crypto brokers together in Europe.
Both platforms keep operating under their own brand names (in Dutch) and work together on technology and on economies of scale. BLOX users kept their app and their accounts without changes after the takeover.

What is BLOX?
BLOX is a crypto app and broker from the Netherlands for private investors who want to buy bitcoin and other crypto assets with euros in a simple app. The AFM supervises BLOX B.V. under MiCA for exchange, custody and transfers of crypto assets.
The BLOX app
The BLOX app for iOS and Android opens an account in a few steps and lets customers buy crypto assets in one tap or through recurring purchases. Besides trading, the app publishes crypto news and explanations in Dutch, from the basics of bitcoin to guides on when to buy and sell.
Bitcoin price and buying bitcoin
Customers follow the bitcoin price in euros in the app and buy bitcoin directly with euros from their Dutch bank account. Companies can also buy bitcoin through a business account, and gift vouchers let customers give crypto assets to others.
Sending and withdrawing crypto assets
Customers can send crypto assets from their BLOX account to an external wallet or another exchange and receive crypto assets from outside. The EU travel rule requires BLOX to record sender and recipient data for such transfers, and euro withdrawals go back to the bank account of the customer.
Supervision and safety
Customers who ask whether BLOX is reliable can check its MiCA authorization from the AFM and the separate storage of customer assets in the managed account. Customers in the earn account lend their crypto assets to BLOX Earn, which the AFM does not supervise, so these assets carry the credit risk of BLOX Earn.
