Copenhagen Fintech

Copenhagen Fintech describes itself as the innovation hub created to accelerate fintech innovation in Denmark and the Nordics. The Danish financial sector set it up in 2016 together with the City of Copenhagen, and it runs the Copenhagen Fintech Lab at Applebys Plads and Nordic Fintech Week, the conference that began as Copenhagen Fintech Week.

If you work at a German bank or payment firm and look north, Copenhagen Fintech is the organization that connects Danish banks, insurers and fintechs, and its conference week in Copenhagen is where they meet visitors from abroad.

Who set up Copenhagen Fintech

The financial industry association Finans Danmark, the finance employees' union Finansforbundet and the City of Copenhagen drove the opening of the Lab, and Copenhagen Fintech's ten-year history also names the IT provider SDC, the payment company Nets and the savings banks Sparekassen Sjælland and Spar Nord among the first partners. The strategic partners today are Dansk Industri, Finans Danmark, Finansforbundet, Forsikring & Pension and Industriens Fond.

More than 80 corporate, research and scale-up partners sit around them, among them Danske Bank, Nordea Denmark, Mastercard and Nasdaq.

The Copenhagen Fintech Lab

The Lab is a coworking space for fintech startups and scale-ups at Applebys Plads 7 in central Copenhagen, with a second site in Aarhus. Copenhagen Fintech calls it the central meeting point of its community, and about 45 companies work there at a time. More than 120 startups and scale-ups have passed through it, and more than 1,500 people have worked there since the first ten startups moved in.

A resident takes a flexible desk, a fixed desk or a private office for two to six people, and the membership includes the community events and founder breakfasts. The Lab also hosts fintech events from outside organizers.

Nordic Fintech Week

Copenhagen Fintech Week started in 2017 and became Nordic Fintech Week in 2022 to reflect its regional scope. It calls itself the biggest finance and fintech conference in the Nordics and runs over several days at TAP 1 on Raffinaderivej in Copenhagen, with speakers from regulators and financial institutions. A year-round online program, Insight 365, extends it.

For a German visitor the week puts Danish banks, supervisors and fintechs in one venue. The Swedish counterpart is Stockholm Fintech Week.

Programs, delegations and the Nordic Fintech Center

Copenhagen Fintech runs incubation, scale-up and mentorship programs, a Tech for Fin program and international delegations. The delegation program started in 2018 and has taken Danish fintechs to Singapore, Brazil and Japan. In 2025 it launched the Nordic Fintech Center, a partnership platform built around research.

On the supervisory side, Denmark's Finanstilsynet runs its own FT Lab, where a firm tests a model under supervision before it goes to market. The Danish and Swedish rules and payment systems are compared at fintech in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

It runs the Copenhagen Fintech Lab for startups, incubation and scale-up programs, international delegations and Nordic Fintech Week, and it counts more than 80 corporate, research and scale-up partners.

Is Copenhagen Fintech Week the same as Nordic Fintech Week?

Yes. Copenhagen Fintech started the conference as Copenhagen Fintech Week in 2017 and renamed it Nordic Fintech Week in 2022. It still takes place in Copenhagen, and searches for either name lead to the same event.

Can a German company use the Copenhagen Fintech Lab?

The Lab rents flexible desks, fixed desks and small offices to fintech startups and scale-ups, and Copenhagen Fintech lists memberships and partnerships for companies that do not need a desk. A German fintech planning a Danish launch can start with a partnership or with a visit during Nordic Fintech Week.
