CryptoUK
CryptoUK is the self-regulatory trade association of the crypto and digital asset industry in the United Kingdom and has represented the sector since 2017. More than 100 member firms belong to it, from exchanges and custodians to fintechs, infrastructure providers, law firms and other professional services firms.
CryptoUK works with the Financial Conduct Authority, HM Treasury and the Bank of England on proportionate rules that raise standards and protect consumers. Its members write consultation responses and industry guidance in five working groups and meet policymakers at roundtables and webinars. The association also runs the secretariat of the Crypto and Digital Assets All-Party Parliamentary Group.
Members and membership
The members of CryptoUK range from the trading firms B2C2 and Keyrock and the exchanges Luno and CoinJar to compliance providers such as Notabene and Sumsub and the asset manager WisdomTree. The data provider Lukka is a member, and its chief financial officer leads the tax working group of the association. Law firms form a large group, among them CMS, Reed Smith, Travers Smith and Paul Hastings, and the fintech trade body Innovate Finance is a member as well.
Membership gives firms a seat in the working groups and a voice in the joint consultation responses that CryptoUK sends to government and regulators. Members also take part in closed-door discussions with policymakers, and CryptoUK introduces new members in interviews, such as Aria Compliance in September 2026.
Crypto regulation in the UK and the FCA
Most of the policy work of CryptoUK concerns the new UK regime for cryptoassets under the Financial Conduct Authority. In October 2026 the association answered chapter 4 of FCA consultation CP26/32 on deferral arrangements for the regime, and in September 2026 it explained the final FCA perimeter guidance in policy statement PS26/18 to its members. Tax is a second field of work, and CryptoUK responded to the draft HMRC measures on tax and information powers in September 2026.
Since joining The Digital Chamber, CryptoUK also comments on rules in the European Union. On 1 October 2026 both organizations published a joint response to the European Commission on its review of the MiCA regulation, the EU rulebook for crypto-asset service providers.
Working groups and reports
CryptoUK runs five working groups, among them groups for regulation, tax, financial crime and ESG, each led by practitioners from member firms. Sam Robinson of CMS co-leads the regulation group, Suzanne Morsfield of Lukka leads the tax group, and Ben Cooper of TLT co-leads the financial crime group. The groups prepare the consultation responses and the industry guidance that CryptoUK publishes.
One of these publications is the Travel Rule Good Practices Guide for crypto firms that apply the Travel Rule to transfers of cryptoassets. In its webinars the association prepares members for new HMRC reporting under the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework and for the tax treatment of stablecoins and DeFi.
Upcoming crypto and digital asset events
Executive director, team and board
Zunera Mazhar is the executive director of CryptoUK and leads a team with Nick Brooks as director of policy and government affairs, Aaron Tolson as director of operations and Nathan Trickey as director of membership and business development. Su Carpenter, who was executive director when the association joined The Digital Chamber in December 2025, now sits on the board. The other board directors are Cody Carbone, the chief executive of The Digital Chamber, Ian Taylor, Perianne Boring and Lindsay Ezykowich.
Events and webinars
CryptoUK runs events for its members throughout the year, from quarterly networking evenings to roundtables, briefings and closed-door discussions with policymakers and regulators. Recent webinars covered the UK market abuse regime for cryptoassets in October 2026 and the role of digital assets in the future of payments in September 2026.
Crypto and Digital Assets APPG
CryptoUK has run the secretariat of two consecutive Crypto and Digital Assets All-Party Parliamentary Groups in the UK Parliament. The current group is co-chaired by Gurinder Singh Josan, a Member of Parliament, and by Ed Vaizey, who sits in the House of Lords as Lord Vaizey of Didcot.
CryptoUK and The Digital Chamber
In December 2025 CryptoUK formally joined The Digital Chamber, the US trade association for digital assets and blockchain, as part of its global policy network. The team, the members and the policy expertise of CryptoUK came under the umbrella of The Digital Chamber, which gives both organizations one platform for advocacy in the UK and the United States. A US-UK working group of the network deals with regulatory coordination between the two markets.
History and code of conduct
Seven crypto firms presented CryptoUK in February 2018 as a self-regulatory trade body with a code of conduct at its center: BlockEx, CEX.IO, Coinbase, CoinShares, CommerceBlock, CryptoCompare and eToro. The code asked members for fit and proper checks on investors, due diligence on platform users, separation of client money from company funds and measures against money laundering. Iqbal Gandham, then UK managing director of eToro, was elected the first chair of CryptoUK.
CryptoUK and Finance Loop
The working groups of CryptoUK deal with the FCA regime for cryptoassets, the Travel Rule and tax reporting, and Finance Loop members in Germany and the rest of Europe face the same questions under MiCA. Finance Loop brings people from banks, asset managers and crypto firms together at its events on digital assets and their regulation.
Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the institutional use of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
