The topics it lists are central bank digital currencies and payment infrastructure, tokenization platforms, crypto custody and key management, DeFi and smart contracts, and digital identity. Its project examples include a debt capital markets platform on Hyperledger Fabric that has been running since 2018, a crypto custody solution with air-gapped cold storage, the tokenization of real estate for fractional investment, and an anti-money laundering solution for crypto custodians.

The staff come from more than 30 nations and have what d-fine calls an "analytical, quantitative and technological background" (d-fine). Artificial intelligence and data analytics is another of its focus topics. d-fine is also a member of the Digital Euro Association, next to banks, asset managers and technology firms.

The Frankfurt Forum on Digital Assets & Applications

d-fine organizes the Frankfurt Forum on Digital Assets & Applications, a free evening conference at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt for experts on DLT-based securities, money and infrastructure. Guests apply and are admitted as capacity allows. The second edition, on DLT-based capital markets, had two panels moderated by d-fine's blockchain experts.

The first panel covered market infrastructure built on distributed ledgers, with DekaBank, 360X, 21X and Seturion. The second covered payments in DLT-based markets and the use of different forms of money, with the Deutsche Bundesbank, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, DZ Bank and AllUnity.

The rules behind DLT capital markets

The forum's program named the rules that drive this market. Germany's Electronic Securities Act (eWpG) allows crypto securities without a paper certificate. The EU DLT Pilot Regime lets trading venues such as 21X trade and settle tokenized securities on a ledger, and the EU's market integration package strengthens it. For the cash leg, stablecoins under MiCAR and Pontes, the ECB service for settlement in central bank money, are the two routes.

The pages on tokenization in Germany and onchain capital markets explain these rules and name the banks and exchanges that use them.
