Payments Training for Banks and Fintechs

Payments training teaches how money moves between accounts: card schemes, SEPA and instant transfers, cross-border payments and the rules behind them. Banks, payment institutions and the fintechs that sell to them send product, operations, compliance and IT staff. Dates of payments events are in the calendar further down.

What payments training courses cover

Introductory courses share a core. PayEd teaches #101 in Payments live over Zoom on two days, with card schemes, cross-border, digital and real-time payments, open data, innovation and regulation, for professionals moving into payments and leaders refreshing their knowledge. The Electronic Transactions Association sells Payments 101 as a self-paced online course of four modules and about four hours, with a final exam and a digital badge.

Febelfin Academy in Belgium goes further with its Qualified Payments Expert track (in French): four classroom days on European payments, cross-border payments, cards and point-of-sale payments, and trends and new entrants, each closed by a test that needs 60 percent to pass. It is open to payments, IT, audit and compliance staff, customer advisers and managers.

New rules in the syllabus

Recent EU law adds material to any payments course. The Instant Payments Regulation required payment service providers in the euro area to receive instant credit transfers in euro by January 9, 2025 and to send them by October 9, 2025. Stablecoins under MiCA, the Wero wallet of the European Payments Initiative and the planned digital euro are newer subjects next to SEPA and cards.
