RealUnit
RealUnit Schweiz AG is an investment company in Baar, in the Swiss canton of Zug, and its shares are listed on the Swiss exchange BX Swiss. The company invests in physical gold and silver stored in Switzerland and in Swiss ownership securities, and it buys neither government bonds nor bank securities. Karl Reichmuth and Vahan P. Roth founded the company in June 2017.
A RealUnit share exists in two forms: as a bearer share in the securities account of a bank, and as a share token on the Ethereum blockchain. The token is a registered share in the form of a ledger-based security under Swiss law, so its holder is a shareholder of the company. Holders keep the token in a wallet of their own, to which the company has no access.
Bearer shares on BX Swiss
The bearer shares of RealUnit Schweiz AG have been listed on BX Swiss since November 2021, under the ticker REALU and the ISIN CH1129911108. A global certificate for these shares is deposited with SIX SIS AG, and buyers hold them in the securities account of their own bank, which charges its usual trading fees.
Investors pay no direct fees to RealUnit Schweiz AG for buying or holding its shares. RealUnit nets its running costs against returns and names 1.2 percent a year as its medium-term cost target (in German). Purchases above CHF 100,000 are arranged directly with the company.
The RealUnit token as a ledger-based security
Swiss DLT law has allowed shares and other rights to be issued as ledger-based securities under Article 973d of the Code of Obligations since February 2021. RealUnit uses this form for its registered shares on Ethereum, so the token is the share itself, and the share register of the company decides who counts as a shareholder.
Many tokenized stocks work differently: the Global Markets tokens of Ondo Finance, for example, are certificates of an issuing vehicle that track the value of a share without making the buyer a shareholder. When RealUnit presented its new app, IT Finanzmagazin reported (in German) that about ten percent of RealUnit shares are held as tokens, and that more than one subscriber in eight chose the token form in the oversubscribed capital increase of February 2026.
RealUnit app and self-custody
Since July 2026 the RealUnit Mobile Wallet covers the whole path from a bank account to a share token in a wallet of the holder. RealUnit built the app with DFX, whose on-ramp and off-ramp move money between a bank account and the blockchain, so no bank, broker or custodian sits between the buyer and the token. Before the app, the token could be bought only through the company website.
Buying and holding tokens in the app is free, and a sale in the app costs one percent (in German), blockchain fees included. Holders can also keep the same tokens in the Aktionariat app or another Ethereum wallet, where the seller pays the network fee. Clients of Hypothekarbank Lenzburg have been able to hold RealUnit share tokens in their e-banking next to ordinary securities since October 2023.
Investment policy: precious metals and real assets
RealUnit aims to preserve real value and names a return above the growth of the Swiss economy as its target. At least 60 percent of the assets are real assets such as precious metals, land and raw materials, and at least half of the invested assets lie outside the banking system in insured Swiss high-security vaults. The company also hedges the equity holdings in its portfolio.
A RealUnit token stands for a share in a company that owns gold and silver, among other assets. Tokenized gold products follow another model, in which each token is a claim on a quantity of metal held for the token holders.
