Signicat

Signicat is a European digital identity company whose platform lets banks and other businesses verify new customers, log them in and collect electronic signatures online. A company connects once to Signicat and gets access to national electronic IDs, ID document checks with biometrics, data sources for anti-money laundering checks and signing services.

Signicat was founded in 2006 in Trondheim, Norway, and more than 21,000 companies across Europe use its services, among them banks, insurers, payment firms and gaming operators. These businesses need reliable identity checks to meet anti-money laundering rules at onboarding and to stop account takeover and payment fraud later on.

Identity verification and KYC

For know your customer checks, Signicat offers identity proofing with ID document scans, face biometrics, data verification against registers and ongoing monitoring of existing customers. Signicat Mint is a no-code tool in which compliance teams combine these steps into onboarding and risk flows without writing software.

ReadID, another Signicat product, reads the chip in passports, ID cards and residence permits through NFC on a smartphone and checks its authenticity cryptographically within seconds. The orchestration platform Zenoo added ReadID to its marketplace in February 2026, with the stricter identity checks of the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation in mind.

BankID, MitID and other national eIDs

Many European countries give their citizens a national electronic ID, such as BankID in Norway and Sweden or MitID in Denmark, and Signicat connects these to its customers through its eID and Wallet Hub. The platform covers more than 35 electronic identity methods and digital wallets, and Signicat counts 450 million trusted logins through its services.

Signicat has added ID Austria to the hub, which opens online onboarding to the 4.8 million Austrians who hold that eID. For BankID in Sweden and MitID in Denmark, Signicat also unlocked extra security features that help banks fight account takeover and payment fraud.

Electronic signatures and Dokobit

Signicat sells electronic signing as an API for software teams and as a ready-made portal, which it runs under the Dokobit name. In August 2021 Signicat bought Dokobit, an e-signature provider founded in 2008 in Vilnius with customers such as SEB, Telia and Toyota.

Dokobit is a qualified trust service provider under the EU eIDAS rules, so its signatures can reach the level of a qualified electronic signature. Earlier in 2021 Signicat had bought the Norwegian mobile authentication firm Encap Security and the Spanish video identification firm ElectronicIDentification.
