Swiss Bankers Association (SBA)

The Swiss Bankers Association (SBA, in German Schweizerische Bankiervereinigung) is the umbrella organization of the banks in Switzerland. It was founded in Basel in 1912 and has about 260 member institutions, from the big bank UBS and the cantonal banks to private banks and foreign banks. It represents them to policymakers, the authorities and the public in Switzerland and abroad.

The SBA publishes the annual Banking Barometer on the state of the Swiss banks and writes self-regulation for its members. Giorgio Pradelli, CEO of EFG International, has chaired its board since September 2026, and Roman Studer has been CEO since August 2023.

Members, chair and chief executive

The SBA works through a board of directors, an office and expert committees on topics from banking stability and capital markets to digital finance, cybersecurity, tax and sustainable finance. Besides institutions, individual bankers can join as members.

The board elected Giorgio Pradelli as chair, and he took over at the Swiss Bankers Day on September 17, 2026 from Marcel Rohner, who had led the association for five years. Giorgio Pradelli remains CEO of EFG International. Roman Studer, formerly at UBS, runs the office as CEO.

Banking Barometer 2026

According to the Banking Barometer 2026, the banks in Switzerland raised their aggregate net income by 5.8 percent to CHF 73.8 billion in 2025. Assets under management grew 4.8 percent to CHF 9,729 billion and passed CHF 10,000 billion in the first half of 2026. The banks employed 92,002 people in full-time equivalents in Switzerland at the end of 2025, 2.5 percent fewer than a year earlier, with the decline at the big bank.

The SBA's Swiss Banking Outlook, a survey of chief economists and investment officers at member banks, found that 86 percent consider a successful approach to AI vital for international competitiveness. Across the whole Swiss financial center, banks and insurers produced 9.0 percent of GDP in 2024.
