Volksbank crypto: meinKrypto in the VR Banking App
The Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken are Germany's cooperative banks, about 700 local institutions. Their crypto offer is meinKrypto, a wallet inside the VR Banking App that DZ BANK and the IT provider Atruvia built. Each bank decides whether its customers get it. Dated events are in the calendar below.
How meinKrypto works
meinKrypto is a crypto wallet built into the VR Banking App, the app customers already use for their current account. According to IT Finanzmagazin (in German), Atruvia developed it together with DZ BANK, which received its MiCA authorization from BaFin at the end of December 2025. At the start it offers bitcoin, ether, litecoin and cardano.
Three firms run the background. Boerse Stuttgart Digital keeps the crypto assets in custody, EUWAX AG executes the orders, and DZ BANK operates the platform. The offer is for self-directed investors and is not part of the banks' advisory service, so the banks do not promote it actively.
Local banks activate meinKrypto
DZ BANK provides the platform, and each local bank decides whether to switch it on. To do so it files its own MiCA notification with BaFin, as IT Finanzmagazin reported; six banks, among them VR-Bank Rottal-Inn, ran the pilot. MiCA Article 60 sets the notification requirements.
Interest in the group is broad. In Cryptonews' report on the license, 71 percent of the 670 cooperative banks were considering crypto services. The Bavarian cooperative association GVB, quoted by IT Finanzmagazin, expects no rush from customers.
One platform for hundreds of banks
The model differs from the Sparkasse offer, where DekaBank runs trading and custody on its own infrastructure with Boerse Stuttgart Digital as liquidity provider. In the cooperative group, a central institution licenses the platform and a specialist holds the coins. This is a crypto-as-a-service arrangement.
For a member bank, the work lies in compliance and service: the notification, the risk notes for customers, anti-money laundering checks, and the travel rule data that every crypto transfer carries.
