Amberdata
Amberdata is a digital asset data company from the United States that provides market, derivatives and onchain data for trading and risk teams. Its best-known product is GVOL, an analytics platform for crypto options that shows implied volatility, skew and option flows. Hedge funds, asset managers, banks and exchanges use the data through APIs and dashboards.
Amberdata was founded in 2017 and was led by its chief executive Shawn Douglass. The company raised around 47 million dollars from more than 20 investors, among them Coinbase Ventures and Chicago Trading Company. In June 2026 the crypto data firm Kaiko acquired Amberdata.
Crypto derivatives and options analytics
GVOL shows the implied volatility of bitcoin and ether options across strikes and expiries, the skew between puts and calls and the flow of large option trades. Options desks use it to price trades and to watch how the market positions itself before events. Kaiko said that options analytics was one of the capabilities its institutional clients asked for most often.
Amberdata API and onchain data
The Amberdata API delivers spot and derivatives market data, order books, funding rates and blockchain data such as transactions, addresses and token transfers. Developers query it over REST and WebSocket interfaces, and research teams also used Amberdata for AI-based market research.
Acquisition by Kaiko
Kaiko announced the acquisition on 2 June 2026, two weeks after it had bought Cometh, and called Amberdata its fifth acquisition. The parties kept the price of the deal confidential. The amberdata.io address now leads visitors to the announcement of the deal.
