Coin Metrics
Coin Metrics is a crypto data company from Boston that measures blockchain networks and crypto markets. Its network data counts addresses, transactions, fees and supply for bitcoin, ether and other assets, calculated from the raw data of each blockchain. Analysts, funds and banks use these figures to compare networks and to value assets.
In July 2025 the trading and portfolio management platform Talos announced the acquisition of Coin Metrics, in a deal reported at more than 100 million dollars. Anton Katz and Ethan Feldman founded Talos in New York in 2018, and the coinmetrics.io address now leads to the data pages of Talos.
Network data and State of the Network
Network Data Pro is the paid product with the full set of onchain metrics, while the free Community data offers a smaller set for researchers and students. Coin Metrics used these metrics in its research newsletter State of the Network to explain market events with data from the blockchains themselves.
Coin Metrics API and market data
The Coin Metrics API serves network data and market data from one interface, and the Community API is open without a paid contract. Market Data Feed and Market Data Pro deliver trades, order books, quotes and candles from exchanges. Atlas is a blockchain explorer for analysts that follows single transactions, addresses and balances.
Reference rates and indexes
Coin Metrics calculates reference rates and the CMBI indexes, which fund issuers license as benchmarks for crypto products. Talos combines this data with its order and execution management system for institutional clients, so a trader sees prices, positions and network data in one place.
