Apex Group
Apex Group is a fund and asset servicing company that runs the back office of investment funds for asset managers, pension funds, family offices and banks. Its teams calculate the net asset value of funds, keep investor registers, check investors against money laundering rules and prepare the financial statements and regulatory reports that funds have to file.
Peter Hughes founded Apex Group in Bermuda in 2003, and the company now services more than 3.5 trillion US dollars in assets with over 13,000 employees in 52 countries. Apex Group also acts as depositary and management company for funds, and since 2025 it has owned a majority of the Luxembourg tokenization company Tokeny.
Fund administration and fund accounting
The core business of Apex Group is fund administration: keeping the books of a fund, valuing its portfolio and calculating the net asset value daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. According to its service description, the teams also prepare financial statements under IFRS and US GAAP, calculate management fees and carried interest, process capital calls and reconcile cash and positions with the custodian or prime broker every day. Hedge funds, private equity and private debt funds, real asset funds and mutual funds all run on the same Apex platform.
Depositary services and management company
Apex Group acts as independent depositary for funds in Luxembourg, Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, under the UCITS and AIFM directives, and states 451 billion US dollars in assets under depositary. Its subsidiary FundRock is a fully authorized Super ManCo with more than 500 billion US dollars in assets under management company. A fund manager can therefore hand the depositary role, the management company and the administration to companies of one group.
Tokenization with Tokeny and Apex Digital 3.0
Apex Group first invested in Tokeny in December 2023 and took a majority stake in May 2025, with full control planned within three years. Tokeny created the token standard ERC-3643, and Apex Group uses it in Apex Digital 3.0, its service for issuing, distributing, holding and administering tokenized assets. For tokenized funds Apex Group combines digital investor onboarding, fund administration, transfer agency and reporting, with Tokeny as default partner for the blockchain register and other tokenization platforms as an option.
Tokenized hedge funds and mining notes
In August 2025 SkyBridge Capital, founded by Anthony Scaramucci, began to tokenize 300 million US dollars of its hedge funds with Tokeny through Apex Digital 3.0. In March 2026 Apex Group agreed to tokenize a mining note of the French asset manager Omnes on Base and to act as administrator and transfer agent of the token, as CoinDesk reported in March 2026.

Apex Group in Luxembourg
Luxembourg is one of the main locations of Apex Group in Europe: the group runs depositary and fund services there, and Tokeny is based in Munsbach near Luxembourg City. Luxembourg law allows securities to be issued and held in registers on a blockchain, which is the legal basis for tokenization in Luxembourg. Many of the investment funds that Apex Group services are Luxembourg UCITS or alternative investment funds sold across the European Union.
Apex Group in Germany
Apex Group entered the German market in 2021 by buying mola-administration, a fund administrator from Hamburg that serviced private equity, venture capital, debt and digital asset funds. According to its Germany profile, the German team works from Hamburg and Frankfurt and services more than 170 funds with 5.6 billion US dollars in assets. The team in Germany handles fund administration and fund accounting for regulated and unregulated funds, together with regulatory reporting and investor transactions.
From Bermuda to 52 countries
Peter Hughes founded Apex Group in Bermuda in 2003, and the company opened its first European office in Ireland within five years. After an investment by Genstar Capital the company passed 1,000 employees and 99 billion US dollars in serviced assets by 2018, according to the company history. Between 2019 and 2023 Apex Group grew to 11,000 employees and 3 trillion US dollars in serviced assets, launched its first ESG offering and a digital banking service, and supported the launch of the charity Apex Foundation.
Is Apex Group listed on a stock exchange?
Apex Group shares do not trade on a stock exchange, because the group is a private company in which financial investors such as Genstar Capital have invested. Founder Peter Hughes still leads Apex Group as chief executive more than twenty years after he started the company in Bermuda.
