Bitcoin Course for Investors
A bitcoin course for investors explains the asset and the practical choices involved in adding bitcoin to a portfolio. Participants learn how the network records ownership and how wallets control access to a holding. The training distinguishes direct ownership from investment products that give exposure to bitcoin through a financial instrument.
Investors need to understand how custody arrangements and price volatility affect a bitcoin position before committing capital. Professional investors must also check whether their mandate and fund rules allow the intended holding. A bitcoin course connects these decisions with portfolio risk and the procedures needed to acquire and safeguard the asset.
Why bitcoin is its own asset class
An investor evaluating bitcoin starts with supply, since that is what separates it from every asset a portfolio normally holds. The Bitcoin whitepaper set out that new coins enter circulation only through the first transaction of each block, with the reward halving on a fixed schedule until issuance stops entirely. The source code of Bitcoin Core enforces a hard cap of 21,000,000 BTC and halves the block subsidy roughly every four years, a schedule no company, fund manager or government can alter.
That fixed schedule is why the position-sizing question looks different for bitcoin than for equities or bonds. A share count grows through a capital raise, and a bond's supply grows with each new issuance, but bitcoin's issuance curve is fixed and public years in advance. An IMF study found that bitcoin's correlation with major stock indices stayed low before 2020, then rose more than four-fold against S&P 500 volatility once the pandemic began, a shift that changes how much diversification a given allocation actually buys.
How bitcoin enters a regulated portfolio
The SEC approved the first spot bitcoin ETPs for listing and trading on 10 January 2024, and iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF from BlackRock held close to 67 billion US dollars in net assets as of late September 2026, alongside a one-year return of minus 26.8 percent to 30 September 2026 on the same fund page, two figures that belong together when an investor sizes a position. In Germany, an open-ended Spezial-AIF with fixed investment terms may hold crypto-assets for investment purposes up to 20 percent of the fund's value under section 284 of the KAGB, provided their market value can be determined, a cap that sets a hard boundary on how far a regulated German fund can go.
Clearstream, part of Deutsche Börse Group, opened institutional bitcoin and ether custody and settlement in March 2025 through Crypto Finance (Deutschland) as MiCA-licensed sub-custodian, later extending the offering to six more crypto currencies in July 2026.
The risks a course has to cover with the opportunity
The prudential standard of the Basel Committee, in force since 1 January 2025, assigns bitcoin to the bank risk category reserved for unbacked crypto-assets, with a risk weight of up to 1250 percent and total exposure capped near 1 to 2 percent of a bank's Tier 1 capital. ESMA warns that an investor may lose the full amount invested in a crypto-asset, with no investor compensation scheme under MiCA if a provider cannot return the assets, a gap that has no equivalent in deposit-insured banking products.

The course: Bitcoin for Investors by Finance Loop
The Finance Loop Bitcoin for Investors masterclass is built around these questions: risk and return profile, correlation with traditional assets, custody models, market structure and portfolio allocation thinking, taught by Dr. Mathias Linkerhand, a lecturer at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and board member of the German Bitcoin Association. The one-day, German-language course runs at several German locations for investors, asset managers, family offices and advisors who already know the basics and want a professional grounding before they act.

Is there a bitcoin course built for professional investors?
The Finance Loop Bitcoin for Investors masterclass is a one-day, in-person course for investors, asset managers, family offices and advisors, with sessions across German cities. The Bitcoin for Investors masterclass works through correlation, custody, market structure and allocation, not the mechanics of opening a first wallet. Dates and booking are on the masterclass page.
How much bitcoin can a regulated German fund hold?
Section 284 of the KAGB lets an open-ended German Spezial-AIF with fixed investment terms hold crypto-assets for investment purposes, capped at 20 percent of the fund's value, provided their market value can be determined. That cap applies on top of any custody and licensing requirements the fund's crypto-asset service provider must meet under MiCA.
What are the main ways to get bitcoin exposure as an investor?
An investor can hold bitcoin directly through a licensed exchange, through a spot ETF such as the iShares Bitcoin Trust, or through institutional custody at a provider such as the MiCA-licensed sub-custodian of Clearstream. Each route carries a different mix of cost, counterparty risk and tax treatment, a comparison the masterclass works through in detail.
