BTC-ECHO: the German-language crypto media platform

BTC-ECHO describes itself as the leading German-language media platform for bitcoin, blockchain and digital currencies. Since 2014 it has published news, analyses and market reports on crypto-assets, DeFi and web3 for investors, companies and people who follow crypto in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

BTC-ECHO and Finance Loop entered a long-term strategic partnership on February 25, 2025, to work together on the market for crypto-assets, DeFi and web3 in the German-speaking countries.

What BTC-ECHO publishes

BTC-ECHO GmbH is registered in Kranenburg on the Lower Rhine, and its newsroom works in Berlin, according to its imprint. Mark Preuß is managing director, and Sven Wagenknecht is editor-in-chief. The platform publishes daily crypto news, a price section with charts, market analyses, a podcast and courses in the BTC-ECHO Academy, and it has its own app.

Its reporting reaches beyond crypto prices into banking and market infrastructure, which is why several Finance Loop pages cite it. The page on Börse Stuttgart Digital links an interview with the group CEO on the EU expansion (in German), and the page on Polygon cites BTC-ECHO's report on a 100 million euro NRW.BANK bond issued on Polygon (in German).

Crypto news in Germany: the field BTC-ECHO covers

Crypto news in German deals with the same subjects as crypto news anywhere, plus German law and German tax. The rules that come up most are MiCA, the EU regulation under which BaFin licenses crypto exchanges and custodians in Germany, and the one-year holding period for private bitcoin sales. Under section 23 of the Einkommensteuergesetz, a private investor who sells bitcoin after more than a year pays no tax on the gain. A draft bill would replace this with a flat withholding tax from 2027, and the Bitcoin Bundesverband has petitioned the Bundestag to keep the holding period.

For professionals the news also covers banks that enter crypto, tokenized securities under the German eWpG and stablecoins under MiCA. The knowledge hub answer on MiCA and the page on the CASP license give the background to these reports.

BTC-ECHO and Finance Loop

BTC-ECHO and Finance Loop announced their partnership on February 25, 2025. Editor-in-chief Sven Wagenknecht said that both want to promote the exchange of know-how, perspectives and ideas, and to connect solution providers with the industry, with a focus on events. As part of the partnership, BTC-ECHO became a partner of TechClub 25/3, the fintech and blockchain party Finance Loop held with TechQuartier in Frankfurt on March 25, 2025, the evening before the Crypto Assets Conference.

Finance Loop names BTC-ECHO among its event and network partners in its look back on 2025, and on its About page. The partnership also appears on the pages on DeFi in Germany and onchain finance.

Does BTC-ECHO have a podcast?

Yes. BTC-ECHO produces a podcast on bitcoin and crypto next to its news site, and it lists the episodes on btc-echo.de. The BTC-ECHO Academy offers courses for people who want to learn about crypto step by step.

Is crypto legal in Germany?

Yes. Buying, holding and selling bitcoin and other crypto-assets is legal in Germany. Firms that exchange, trade or hold crypto for customers need a license from BaFin under MiCA, and a private investor pays tax on a sale within one year of purchase. The page on the largest crypto exchanges in Germany shows which platforms hold such a license.

Does BTC-ECHO hold events?

BTC-ECHO named events as the main field of its cooperation with Finance Loop, and it supported TechClub 25/3 in Frankfurt. Current Finance Loop events on crypto-assets, DeFi and web3 are on the events page.
