Supra oracle

Supra is a layer-1 blockchain whose validators also run an oracle, a random number service and automation for smart contracts. The Supra oracle publishes prices for crypto assets and other markets on its own chain and on other blockchains. Protocols can receive the prices as push feeds written onchain on a schedule or pull a signed price when they need it.

The oracle uses a protocol called DORA, short for Distributed Oracle Agreement, to agree on one price from up to 21 data sources. Supra launched its mainnet together with the SUPRA token on November 27, 2024. The token pays the transaction fees on the Supra chain and rewards the nodes that secure it.

How DORA agrees on a price

In DORA, each node fetches prices from the data sources assigned to it and computes their median. Supra assigns these sources at random and reassigns them from time to time with its distributed random number service, dVRF, so no node keeps the same sources for long. Aggregator nodes then look for a cluster of medians that lie within a set agreement distance, and the arithmetic mean of that cluster becomes the price, which Supra calls the S-value. Every node signs this value before it is published.

The protocol tolerates Byzantine faults, so a minority of faulty or dishonest nodes cannot change the final price. Supra organizes its nodes in tribes and clans, and smaller clans drawn from the larger tribe carry out each task. A protocol reads the result as a push feed on a schedule or pulls a signed price into its own transaction.

A blockchain with oracle, randomness and automation built in

Supra calls its chain vertically integrated, because oracle prices, onchain randomness, cross-chain messaging and automation are part of the protocol itself. The chain supports several virtual machines, and Supra states a throughput of 500,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality from its own tests. The incentivized public testnet began on August 15, 2024, and the mainnet followed on November 27, 2024, with SUPRA listed on Bybit, KuCoin, Gate and MEXC.

Value secured and use in lending

DefiLlama counted $205 million in value secured by Supra feeds across 15 protocols in September 2026. Supra states that its oracle runs on more than 50 chains, including Move-language chains such as Aptos and Sui. On these chains, Supra prices often value the collateral in DeFi lending markets, where a wrong price leads straight to wrong liquidations.

What is Supra crypto?

Supra crypto usually means the SUPRA token or the Supra blockchain as a whole. Supra is a layer-1 chain with a built-in oracle, and SUPRA is the token that pays its fees and rewards the nodes that run it.

What the SUPRA token is used for

SUPRA pays the transaction fees on the Supra chain and rewards the validators and oracle nodes that secure the network. The total supply of SUPRA is fixed at 100 billion tokens, and the token launched with the mainnet in November 2024.

DORA, the Distributed Oracle Agreement

DORA is the protocol Supra nodes use to agree on a price. Nodes compute medians from up to 21 sources, aggregators average the medians that lie close together, and all nodes sign the result before it goes onchain.

How fast is the Supra blockchain?

Supra states a throughput of 500,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality, measured in its own tests across a distributed set of nodes. The figures come from Supra and describe test conditions, so the live network can run at a lower rate under real load.

SupraOracles and the name Supra

SupraOracles was the earlier name of the company, used before it launched the Supra blockchain in 2024. The company now calls itself Supra, and the oracle is one of the services built into the Supra blockchain.

Supra and Finance Loop

Finance Loop covers oracle networks in the Investment & Digital Assets track. Supra belongs there because it puts price data, randomness and automation for lending and trading protocols into one blockchain. Finance Loop held a panel on decentralized oracle networks for smart contracts in Frankfurt, a pre-event of the Crypto Assets Conference 2024.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the adoption of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
