Taurus crypto custody and tokenization for banks
Taurus builds the systems a bank runs when it holds crypto or issues tokenized securities itself. The company from Geneva holds a securities firm license from the Swiss financial supervisor FINMA, and Deutsche Bank chose it as a technology partner for crypto custody.
Custody, tokenization and trading products
Taurus was founded in 2018 and lists 14 offices, among them Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Dubai, New York and Singapore. Taurus names more than 40 clients among financial institutions and four products. Taurus-PROTECT is the custody platform. Taurus-CAPITAL is a tokenization platform for public and permissioned blockchains. Taurus-NETWORK covers collateral and settlement, and TDX is an organized trading facility operated by Taurus SA for tokenized assets.
Settlement and collateral
Taurus lists Taurus-NETWORK as its product for collateral and settlement. The idea behind such networks is that when both sides of a trade keep their tokens with regulated custodians, a transfer between them can settle on the ledger without first moving the assets to an exchange. Tokenized collateral explains why banks use tokenized assets as collateral, and the knowledge hub answer on tokenized deposits covers bank money on a ledger.
Taurus-PROTECT and the banks that use it
Taurus-PROTECT holds keys in hot, warm and cold storage and signs with hardware security modules and multi-party computation; a solution brief with Thales describes how governance rules and signing run inside certified HSMs. Bank Vontobel was among the first large customers of the custody solution.
Deutsche Bank agreed a partnership with Taurus to offer custody of crypto and tokenized assets to institutional clients, Cointelegraph reported, and Deutsche Bank was also one of the investors in Taurus's Series B round of 65 million US dollars, led by Credit Suisse. Deutsche Bank in digital assets describes the bank's custody plans, and tokenization platforms explains how a bank chooses between building and buying such a platform.
