Tezos

Tezos is a public blockchain that runs smart contracts, the programs used to manage transactions and digital assets. Developers build applications on a shared network maintained by independent participants. The network processes their instructions under common rules, giving applications a shared record of the assets and transactions they handle.

Tezos includes a governance process for proposing, testing and activating changes to the network protocol. Participants use the blockchain's voting procedures to decide on proposed upgrades to those rules. The process provides a defined way to develop the network while continuing to operate the same chain and the applications that depend on it.

Proof of stake and protocol upgrades

Tezos is an open-source blockchain for digital assets and applications. Arthur and Kathleen Breitman created it in 2014 and the network launched in 2018, according to the Tezos documentation. Tezos runs on proof of stake with the native token tez (XTZ). Token holders vote on protocol upgrades, and an accepted upgrade goes live without splitting the chain.

Securities settlement in central bank money

The Banque de France ran nine experiments with wholesale central bank digital currency and published its report in November 2021. Societe Generale-FORGE was among the firms it selected, and SG-FORGE chose Tezos for its experiment on the delivery and settlement of securities against a digital euro.

SG-FORGE names Tezos next to Ethereum as a public blockchain on which it registers structured products of the Societe Generale group.

Upcoming blockchain and digital asset events

Is Tezos a blockchain?

Yes. Tezos is a public proof-of-stake blockchain with smart contracts. Tezos' native token is tez (XTZ).

Which banks use Tezos?

Societe Generale registers structured products on Tezos through its unit SG-FORGE, and SG-FORGE used Tezos in the Banque de France's wholesale CBDC experiments.

How does Tezos change its rules?

Token holders vote on protocol upgrades on chain. An accepted upgrade goes live without a hard fork.
