Trading 212
Trading 212 is an online broker for shares, ETFs and CFDs that works through companies in the United Kingdom, Germany, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Australia. The group counts more than five million funded accounts worldwide, and its clients hold about 30 billion euros in assets with it. A separate crypto account, run by Trading 212 Markets Ltd in Limassol, lets customers in the European Economic Area buy and sell crypto assets in the same app.
Trading 212 Markets Ltd holds an authorization from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA, dated 22 September 2025. The crypto account trades bitcoin, ether, XRP and other coins in euros or US dollars without commission, with a spread built into each price. A custody partner holds the coins, and the account offers neither wallet transfers nor staking.
Authorization by CySEC
The interim MiCA register of ESMA lists Trading 212 Markets Ltd with an authorization of 22 September 2025 from CySEC, the supervisor in Cyprus. The authorization covers four services: custody and administration of crypto assets for clients, exchange of crypto assets for euros or dollars, execution of orders and reception and transmission of orders. The register names 30 countries of the European Economic Area for these services, Cyprus included.
A CASP license from one member state is valid in the other EU countries once the home supervisor has notified them. Trading 212 Markets Ltd also holds CySEC license number 398/21 as an investment firm, so the same supervisor oversees its securities business and its crypto account.
Custody with Coinbase and client money at LHV Bank
Trading 212 keeps the crypto assets of its customers in segregated wallets at its custody partner Coinbase, separate from the coins of the company itself. Cash in the crypto account lies with LHV Bank, a listed Estonian bank under the supervision of the European Central Bank and the Estonian Financial Supervision Authority.
Under the asset segregation rules of MiCA, the coins held for customers stay legally separate from the assets of Trading 212 Markets Ltd if the company becomes insolvent. Crypto assets are not covered by the Cypriot investor compensation fund or by a deposit guarantee scheme, and crypto custody through a segregated wallet is the protection that applies.
Crypto account for customers in Germany
Customers in Germany hold their share and CFD account with Trading 212 EU GmbH in Ratingen, which BaFin supervises. Their crypto account is still provided by Trading 212 Markets Ltd and comes with its own account number, terms, statements and disclosures, while both accounts appear in the same app.
For German tax residents, Trading 212 deducts no German tax on crypto transactions and leaves them out of the tax certificate and the exemption order. Gains and losses on coins have to be reported in the personal tax return, following the rules on crypto tax in Germany.

Crypto account and available coins
The Trading 212 crypto account is a dedicated account of Trading 212 Markets Ltd with euro and US dollar balances for deposits, withdrawals and trades. The crypto page shows bitcoin, ether, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin and Chainlink, and Trading 212 says that it keeps adding coins to the list. A practice account with virtual money lets customers test the crypto account before they invest.
Fees for buying and selling crypto
Trading 212 lists no trading commission and no custody fee for crypto in its crypto terms and fees. Each price contains a spread as a variable cost, a currency conversion costs 0.15 percent, and the smallest order is two euros or two dollars. Deposits, withdrawals, statements and the closing of an account cost nothing at Trading 212.
Wallet, transfers and staking
The crypto account has no wallet for sending coins to other addresses or receiving them from outside, because transfers are not part of the service. Trades settle off the blockchain with the custodian, so customers own their coins through the account and cannot move them to a personal wallet. Staking rewards for proof of stake coins are not available in the account either.
Buying bitcoin in the app
Customers who ask whether they can buy bitcoin on Trading 212 find it in the crypto account, priced against the euro and the US dollar. The purchase gives the customer a claim on bitcoin held by the custodian, which differs from buying on an exchange that lets users withdraw the coin to a hardware wallet. The smallest bitcoin order is two euros, so fractions of a coin are the normal case.
MiCA license and supervision
The MiCA license of Trading 212 belongs to Trading 212 Markets Ltd in Limassol and was granted by CySEC as an authorization under Article 63. Since the MiCA transitional period ended on 1 July 2026, only firms with such an authorization or a notification may offer crypto services in the EU. The MiCA regulation sets the rules on custody, conflicts of interest and complaints that Trading 212 has to follow.
