Adan

Adan, the Association pour le développement des actifs numériques, is the trade association of companies in France that work with digital assets and blockchain technology. Eleven French firms, among them Ledger, Coinhouse and Kaiko, founded it in Paris in January 2020. Adan represents this industry before public authorities and civil society, in France and at the level of the European Union.

The members of Adan are more than 100 crypto firms, banks, law firms and other companies, from new entrants to established groups, and more than 90 percent of them are French or European. Adan works on four missions: the growth of the sector, proportionate national and European regulation, the visibility of decentralized web projects and a better public understanding of crypto-assets.

Members of the association

The member list of Adan covers exchanges and brokers such as Coinbase, Coinhouse, Meria and Paymium, and banks such as BPCE, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa and ODDO BHF. The digital asset unit of Société Générale, SG-Forge, is a member, and so are the stablecoin issuer Circle, the fund tokenization firm Spiko and the market data provider Kaiko. Law firms such as Clifford Chance, Gide and A&O Shearman are members too, as are the public bank Bpifrance and the Caisse des Dépôts.

Barometer on crypto adoption

Every year Adan publishes a barometer on the adoption of crypto-assets, carried out with the market research firm Ipsos. The 2026 edition, the fifth, surveyed 2,000 adults in France in January 2026 and about 1,000 respondents each in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Belgium. Awareness of crypto-assets in France reached 93 percent, while ownership held at about 11 percent of the population.

In Germany 17 percent and in the Netherlands 20 percent of respondents held crypto-assets, more than in France. French holders put on average 14 percent of their wealth into crypto-assets, often next to classic investments. The study also found interest in euro stablecoins and in access to DeFi through familiar banks and payment cards.

Positions on MiCA and tokenization

Adan answers consultations on French and European rules for the sector, from the technical standards of ESMA under MiCA to the review of MiCA by the European Commission. In April 2026 the Banque de France, the French Treasury and the AMF appointed three representatives of Adan to their strategic group on innovation and tokenization, chaired by Denis Beau, first deputy governor of the Banque de France.

In September 2026 Adan and 27 partners across Europe asked EU policymakers to allow larger volumes in the DLT pilot regime. The European Commission had proposed to raise the cap from 6 billion to 100 billion euros, which the signatories call insufficient.

President, board and team

Stanislas Barthelemi is president of Adan, with Mark Kepeneghian and Laurent Ovion as vice presidents and William O'Rorke as secretary. The board of directors has 12 members elected for two years, with current terms running to May 2027, among them Patrick Hansen of Circle, Clarisse Hagège of Dfns and Stéphanie Cabossioras of SG-Forge. Claire Balva, a co-founder of Blockchain Partner and former head of crypto at KPMG France, has led the team as chief executive since September 2025.

Active members each have an equal vote at the general meeting, while associate members have an advisory role. Three committees work on specific fields: a legal committee chaired by Hubert de Vauplane of Morgan Lewis, a committee for crypto-asset service providers chaired by Yoann Briant of Coinhouse and a tokenization committee chaired by Mark Kepeneghian.

Office in Paris and partnerships

Adan has its office at 13 rue de la Bûcherie in the fifth arrondissement of Paris. In November 2024 Adan and Global Digital Finance announced a strategic partnership between the two industry bodies. Membership of Adan runs until 1 January of the following year, and the fee is calculated pro rata from two criteria of the dues schedule.

Adan and Finance Loop

Crypto firms and banks in France and Germany ask the same questions about MiCA licenses, euro stablecoins and the tokenization of securities that Adan raises with French and European authorities. Finance Loop brings people from both financial centers together at its events and was a partner of the AI in Finance meetup in Paris in June 2026.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the institutional use of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
