Bitget

Bitget is a crypto exchange for spot trading, futures, copy trading, trading bots and earn products, and its global platform is run by BTG Technology Holdings Limited. Gracy Chen is the chief executive of the group, which also offers a payment card and stock trading on the same platform.

For the European Union, Bitget EU applied to the Austrian Financial Market Authority for a license as a crypto-asset service provider under MiCA. The ESMA register lists no Bitget authorization as of 16 October 2026, and the terms of use of the global platform name Germany, Austria and France as prohibited countries.

Bitget MiCA license: the application at the FMA

In an update dated 2 July 2026, Bitget states that Bitget EU has applied to the FMA for authorization as a crypto-asset service provider under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. The news site Crypto.news had already reported the filing on 17 June 2026. Once the FMA grants the authorization, Bitget EU intends to offer crypto-asset services in the EU within the scope of that license.

Bitget adds that the timing, scope and outcome of the process depend on the assessment of the FMA. The company also writes that its statement must not be read as an approval or as an indication of the likely result. A CASP license exists only once the authority has granted it and ESMA lists it.

Is Bitget legal in Germany?

The terms of use of the global Bitget platform, last updated on 16 October 2026, list Germany, Austria and France among the prohibited countries. People who live in these countries may not open an account or use the services of the platform. Searches such as bitget germany not supported refer to this clause.

Since the German transitional period under MiCA ended on 31 December 2025, a crypto exchange needs its own MiCA license or a license passported from another member state to serve clients in Germany. BaFin supervises these exchanges under the MiCA rules in Germany, and an exchange without such a license may not take on German clients.

The planned EU headquarters in Vienna

In January 2026 Bitget named the Austrian lawyer Oliver Stauber as head of Europe. He had run the European unit of KuCoin in Vienna and had earlier been chief legal officer at Bitpanda, where he was in charge of regulatory matters.

The Vienna office is to coordinate compliance, governance and the contact with supervisors for the European business. According to Kaupr, the unit was still being built in early 2026 and was not yet a trading platform. Several exchanges have received MiCA licenses from the FMA, and Bitget EU now follows the same authorization route under the MiCA rules in Austria.

Countries excluded by the terms of use

Besides Germany, Austria and France, the terms of use exclude Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States and Thailand, among others. Sanctioned regions such as Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk, and countries such as Iran, North Korea, Russia and Belarus are excluded too. Bitget can add further locations at any time under the same clause.

Bitget Wallet is a separate self-custody wallet with its own website and brand kit. Its users hold their own keys and need no account on the exchange, which is the service that the terms of use govern.

How to check a crypto exchange in the ESMA register

ESMA publishes every authorized crypto-asset service provider in its interim MiCA register, with the home member state, the licensed services and the date of authorization. An exchange that is missing from this list has no MiCA license, even if it holds a national registration somewhere else. The MiCA transitional period ended across the EU on 1 July 2026 at the latest, so national registrations no longer replace the license.

Licensed European crypto exchanges such as Bitpanda and KuCoin EU appear in the register with their home member state and services. The register also shows which exchanges have passported their license into Germany, Austria or France.
