Chaos Labs

Chaos Labs is a company for risk management and data in onchain finance, founded by Omer Goldberg. It runs Edge, an oracle network that delivers prices together with risk data such as volatility and liquidity, and it recommends risk parameters for lending and trading protocols. Its oracle publishes price feeds, risk feeds and proof of reserve feeds.

Lending protocols use these feeds to set borrow and supply caps, and exchanges for perpetual futures use them to price trades and liquidations. For more than three years, Chaos Labs managed risk for the lending protocol Aave, until it stepped down in April 2026. Chaos Labs also offers data and software for companies that run their own AI workflows.

Edge: prices with risk data

Chaos Labs launched Edge on September 12, 2024, with Jupiter, the perpetual futures exchange on Solana, as its first large user. In the two months before the launch, $30 billion of trading volume on Jupiter ran on Edge prices. Edge adjusts prices for liquidity and volatility, so a sudden spike on a single venue moves the feed less. Chaos Labs monitors the Jupiter feeds around the clock for latency, precision, availability and signs of manipulation.

Price feeds, risk feeds and proof feeds

The Chaos Labs oracle publishes three kinds of feeds for lending and trading protocols. Price feeds work in push and pull mode, with heartbeat and deviation settings per network such as 0.5 or 0.25 percent, and Chaos Labs states five updates per second. Risk feeds publish recommended parameters such as borrow and supply caps and adjust them automatically, within bounds that the governance of the protocol has approved.

Proof feeds track the reserves behind a token and publish them onchain. For Ethena USDe, the feed showed a backing ratio of 100.42 percent on October 2, 2025. GMX on Arbitrum uses Edge risk oracles to adjust the price impact of trades in real time, a parameter that GMX previously updated through manual proposals. For Aave, Chaos Labs lists 36 assets on six blockchains that its risk feeds cover.

Aave and the exit in April 2026

Chaos Labs worked as risk manager for Aave for more than three years and managed risk across the Aave V2 and V3 markets. On April 6, 2026, founder Omer Goldberg announced the exit and named a lack of profitability, the departures of BGD Labs and the Aave Chan Initiative, and a different view of risk management as Aave V4 launched. Chaos Labs had a budget of $3 million in 2025 and estimated that it needed at least $8 million to oversee V3 and V4, while Aave Labs offered $5 million.

Stani Kulechov, chief executive of Aave Labs, described the background differently and said that Chaos Labs did not leave on bad terms. Chaos Labs continues to run its oracle and risk feeds for other protocols.

What does Chaos Labs do?

Chaos Labs builds risk management tools and oracles for onchain finance. Its Edge oracle delivers prices, risk parameters and reserve proofs to lending protocols and perpetual futures exchanges, and the company also sells software for AI workflows.

Why Chaos Labs left Aave

Omer Goldberg named a lack of profitability, the exit of other core contributors and a different view of risk management for Aave V4. Aave Labs had offered a budget of $5 million, against the $8 million that Chaos Labs considered necessary.

What a risk oracle does

A risk oracle publishes recommended risk parameters, such as borrow caps, supply caps or price impact settings, directly onchain. The protocol applies them automatically within bounds that its governance has approved, so it reacts faster to moves in the market.

Who founded Chaos Labs?

Omer Goldberg founded Chaos Labs and speaks for the company in public, including the announcement of the Aave exit in April 2026. He also introduced the Edge oracle network at TOKEN2049 in Singapore in 2024.

Chaos Labs and Ethena

Chaos Labs publishes a proof of reserve feed for Ethena USDe that compares the reserves behind the token with its supply. On October 2, 2025, the feed showed reserves of about $14.88 billion against a supply of about $14.82 billion.

Chaos Labs and Finance Loop

Finance Loop covers oracle networks and risk management in the Investment & Digital Assets track. Chaos Labs belongs there because its risk feeds set the borrow and supply caps that decide how much credit a lending protocol can give. Finance Loop held a panel on decentralized oracle networks for smart contracts in Frankfurt, a pre-event of the Crypto Assets Conference 2024.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the adoption of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
