Dedaub

Dedaub is a Web3 security company that audits smart contracts and builds analysis software for code that already runs on Ethereum and other EVM chains. Its decompiler turns deployed bytecode back into readable, Solidity-like code, and its Security Suite watches contracts and transactions for vulnerabilities and attack patterns.

Dedaub Ltd. is registered in Malta and was founded by Neville Grech, a white-hat hacker and lead author of the MadMax analysis tool, and Yannis Smaragdakis, a professor with twenty years of research in program analysis. Most of the team hold doctorates, and Dedaub has completed more than 200 security audits for clients such as Chainlink, the Ethereum Foundation, Coinbase and EigenLayer.

Audits from protocol upgrades to DeFi

Every Dedaub audit pairs automated tools with adversarial manual review, so the contracts are tested against attack paths seen in practice. For the Ethereum Foundation, Dedaub reviewed the protocol proposals EIP-3074 and EIP-4788 and the Verkle Trees work before they reached mainnet.

Other engagements cover the hardware wallet maker Ledger, the Liquity V2 governance contracts, the LayerZero messaging infrastructure on EigenLayer and the 0x Settler swap contracts. After the report, the client may request one remediation check within ten business days, and the first such check is free if it covers only the reported issues.

The Dedaub decompiler

The Dedaub decompiler builds on Gigahorse, a research decompiler from the academic work of the founders. It reconstructs functions, control flow, storage layout and state changes from EVM bytecode, which lets analysts read contracts whose source code was never published.

Each contract can be viewed at several levels, from an AI-reconstructed Solidity view and the decompiled code down to three-address code, opcodes and raw bytecode. The decompiler is free for individual use at app.dedaub.com, organizations can query it through an API, and it indexes millions of contracts across the major EVM chains.

Security Suite: monitoring, Tok{In} and firewall

The Dedaub Security Suite stores onchain data from Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Base, BNB Chain and Avalanche in about 340 indexed tables per chain. Three engines fill this database, one for decompilation, one for vulnerability detection and one for transaction analysis.

Tok{In} uses this data to flag risky tokens for wallets, exchanges and AI trading agents before they interact with a token. The Monitor product watches protocol activity for abnormal behavior, and the Firewall checks transactions before execution, so a high-value protocol can block known exploit patterns.

Dedaub Ltd. in Malta

Dedaub Ltd. is a private limited liability company under the laws of Malta with the company number C99606, and its audit contracts follow Maltese law. The same island licenses crypto firms in Malta under MiCA through its financial regulator, the MFSA.

The name Dedaub plays on the old building technique wattle and daub, in which clay hides the woven frame of a wall. De-daubing is the work of removing that cover to expose the structure, which is what the company does with compiled smart contract code.

SEAL and the zkSync security council

Dedaub was a founding collaborator of SEAL, the Security Alliance, a group of white-hat researchers that helps protocols during active attacks. Dedaub is also a member of the security council of zkSync, a layer 2 network on Ethereum.

The team reported a reentrancy bug in the Universal Router of Uniswap, which Uniswap fixed. Researchers of Dedaub and the universities of Athens and Malta also publish papers on decompilation and program analysis.

Dedaub and Finance Loop

Custodians, exchanges and asset managers in the Finance Loop network check the contracts they interact with before they move client assets, often without verified source code. Finance Loop brings their security and risk teams together to compare how they decompile, monitor and audit such contracts.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the institutional use of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
