FinanceEstonia
FinanceEstonia is the umbrella organization of the Estonian financial sector and speaks for its members toward the government, regulators and the public. The association was founded in 2011 by 16 companies and organizations under the lead of the Estonian Development Fund, which wanted to grow the local financial ecosystem and the export of financial services.
More than 90 companies and institutions from the private and public sector are members, among them banks, fund managers, insurers, lenders, payment institutions, law firms and universities. The members finance FinanceEstonia entirely through their fees and shape its positions in working groups on fintech, capital markets, insurance, funded pensions and consumer credit.
Members and membership
FinanceEstonia has more than 90 members, sorted in its directory into groups such as banks, fund managers, pension funds, crowdfunding platforms, regtech firms, payment institutions and universities. Members include LHV Group, Redgate Capital, Nasdaq Tallinn, Funderbeam, Salv, EY, KPMG, Bigbank, Estateguru and Tallinn University of Technology, as well as the identity verification company Veriff.
Membership is open to every company and organization that wants to make the Estonian financial sector more competitive and take part in the debates on its development. Members get access to information and to decision makers, and they meet other members in the working groups and at the general meeting, which elects the board every three years.
Five working groups
Most of the work of FinanceEstonia happens in five working groups, where members draft common positions and send input to legislation. The fintech group, led by Ian Kalla of XYB, works for conditions that let Estonian fintech companies grow abroad and pushes for a national fintech strategy. The capital markets group, led by Valeria Kiisk of Redgate Capital, works for a strong regional capital market with many market participants, financing options and investment choices.
Igor Fedotov of Iizi Kindlustusmaakler leads the insurance group, and Age Petter of Swedbank Investeerimisfondid leads the funded pension group, which works with the state on keeping the pension system sustainable as the population ages quickly. The group of credit providers and intermediaries, led by Martin Länts of Bigbank, promotes a consumer credit market with competition, innovation and responsible lending.
Board and management
The general meeting of 10 June 2026 elected a board of 13 members for the term from June 2026 to June 2029. Kaarel Ots, head of Nasdaq Tallinn, chairs the board, and the other members come from Redgate Capital, Aktiva Finance Group, Iizi Kindlustusmaakler, Mifundo, Triniti, TalTech, LHV Group, BaltCap, Inbank, Ellex Raidla and EY Estonia, joined by Ege Metsandi of FinanceEstonia.
The managing director of FinanceEstonia is Anu Müürsepp, who runs the office in Tallinn and is the contact for new members. Martin Rits of the agency Miltton New Nordics supports the association as its communications partner.
Upcoming fintech and finance events in Europe
Fintech in Estonia
A joint study of Tallinn University of Technology and FinanceEstonia with data from the end of 2020 counted 215 registered fintech companies in Estonia with almost 2,000 employees. Digital asset exchange, digital lending and digital payments were the largest segments, and 64 percent of the companies worked internationally from the start.
The research appears as the Estonian Fintech Report, with editions in 2019, 2021 and 2023. In March 2026 TalTech opened the survey for the fourth edition together with FinanceEstonia and Visa, and asked every Estonian fintech company to answer it.
Capital markets and Nasdaq Tallinn
On 1 June 2026 the Tallinn stock exchange marked 30 years since its first trade, and FinanceEstonia marked its 15th anniversary at the same breakfast. Kaarel Ots looked back at three decades of the exchange, and André Küüsvek of the Nordic Investment Bank described the Estonian capital market from a European point of view. A panel with Mihkel Torim of LHV Group, Katre Kõvask of YOOK Productions and Ain Hanschmidt of Infortar then discussed what the market could look like in 2050.
European financial centers in Tallinn
On 16 April 2026 FinanceEstonia hosted the members of the round table of European Union financial centers (EU-RFC) in Tallinn. Their communique asks for less fragmentation of the European financial market, smoother cross-border capital flows, rules that support innovation and shared, secure financial infrastructure. The meeting also covered the savings and investments union, open finance under the FIDA regulation, stablecoins, the digital euro, financial crime and cybersecurity.

FinanceEstonia and Finance Loop
The working groups of FinanceEstonia deal with questions that Finance Loop members also discuss at events in Germany, such as rules for fintech growth, the capital markets union, MiCA and the digital euro. Estonian banks, payment institutions and fintech companies work under the same European rules as their peers in Frankfurt and Berlin, and Finance Loop brings professionals from these markets together across borders.
Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the institutional use of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi. Finance Loop helps its members build skills and personal networks in these fields: Investment & Digital Assets, Payments & Digital Money, Digital Infrastructure & Sovereignty, and Risk & Compliance.
