Payments conferences 2027 in Germany and Europe
A payments conference is where banks, payment institutions, card schemes and merchants argue out the rules and products of the coming year. The German market has its own dates in Berlin and Frankfurt, while the large European events sit in Amsterdam and London or move to a new host city each year.
What each kind of payments conference answers
The national industry conference is small and argumentative. Payment Exchange in Berlin, run by Payment & Banking, opens the German payments year in late winter with the rail, the message format, the checkout and the fee. Its sister event Banking Exchange in Frankfurt closes the year in November with the bank side. Go there when you need to know what German banks and payment institutions will do next.
The transaction banking summit is for the people who run clearing, correspondent accounts and instant payments inside a bank. EBAday, organized by Finextra with the Euro Banking Association, calls itself Europe's leading annual summit for payments and transaction banking executives and changes its host city every year. Sibos, the Swift conference, also moves from city to city and draws more than 10,000 people, by its own count.
The large fair puts the whole ecosystem in one hall. Money20/20 Europe in Amsterdam and PAY360 in London, organized by The Payments Association, are where providers sell and buyers compare. The merchant conference looks at payments from the checkout: the Merchant Payments Ecosystem conference in Berlin brings merchants and their payment providers together, as SoftwareMill's conference calendar describes it.
The subjects on the agenda
Most payments programs in Europe follow a law with a deadline. Instant credit transfers in euro are now a standard service under EU law, so the sessions deal with running them: the payee name check before a transfer and fraud screening within ten seconds, both covered on instant payments in Europe. The PSD3 package brings new rules on fraud liability and access to accounts. Wero, the wallet of the European Payments Initiative, is the euro-area alternative to the card schemes, with the German details on Wero in Germany.
Digital money is the second strand. Stablecoins under MiCA, tokenized deposits and the digital euro have conferences of their own, listed on stablecoin conferences, and they appear as tracks at the payments events. The EBAday agenda, for example, spans instant payments, AI, cross-border payments, stablecoins and open banking.
Finance Loop at payments conferences
Finance Loop organized a side event during Sibos 2025, when the Swift conference came to Messe Frankfurt: an evening at TechQuartier across the street, hosted with Frankfurt Main Finance and OKX Institutional, for people from institutional finance, payments and stablecoins.
Finance Loop is a media partner of Capital & Code, the Frankfurt conference on stablecoins, tokenized funds and payments. It is also a strategic partner of the Digital Euro Association, whose Digital Euro Conference covers the digital euro and other digital money.
Upcoming payments events
Which payments conferences are set for 2027?
Payment Exchange opens the year on February 23 and 24 in Berlin. The Digital Euro Conference follows on April 8 in Frankfurt and PAY360 on April 21 and 22 at ExCeL London. In June come Money20/20 Europe from June 8 to 10 at the RAI in Amsterdam and EBAday on June 15 and 16 at the Roma Convention Center La Nuvola in Rome. Each date comes from the organizer's website.
Sibos goes to Singapore in 2027 and has not published its dates. Banking Exchange meets on November 4, 2026 in Frankfurt and has no 2027 date yet.
Which payments conferences take place in Germany?
Payment Exchange in Berlin and Banking Exchange in Frankfurt are the two conferences of Payment & Banking, one on the payment process and one on the bank. The Merchant Payments Ecosystem conference meets in Berlin, Capital & Code in Frankfurt covers stablecoins and payments, and the Digital Euro Conference takes place in Frankfurt in spring. Payments in Germany describes the market they serve.
What is the biggest payments conference in Europe?
The organizers publish their own figures. PAY360 states more than 7,000 attendees in London, and Money20/20 Europe states more than 7,500 attendees from over 105 countries in Amsterdam. Size is a weak way to choose: a payments product owner at a German bank may learn more in a room of a few hundred people at Payment Exchange than in a hall of thousands.
Are there free payments events?
Many evening formats are free with registration. The Finance Loop side event during Sibos 2025 was free of charge with prior approval, and the evenings Finance Loop supports at TechQuartier work the same way. The large conferences sell tickets, and some price them lower for bank staff than for providers, as Payment & Banking does at Banking Exchange.
