Who organizes the Digital Euro Conference

The Digital Euro Conference is organized by the Digital Euro Association (DEA), a Frankfurt-based association that describes itself as a leading voice on digital currencies, working to advance civil rights and the public good in that field, and as independent, not affiliated with the Eurosystem or any European institution. The DEA names the Digital Euro Conference its flagship annual conference, bringing together the people who shape the future of digital money across central banking, finance, technology, academia and policy.

The DEA builds the conference on the same three pillars as its year-round work: research and intelligence, through policy briefings, trackers and working papers on CBDCs, stablecoins, tokenized money and payments regulation; community and convening, bringing together financial institutions, central banks, policymakers and technology providers through committees and working groups; and public affairs, connecting market expertise with the European policy debate through consultations and dialogue with regulators. Outside the conference, the DEA runs a podcast, a Stablecoin Committee and the Digital Money Academy, which teaches the basics of CBDCs and stablecoins in separate courses.

What the conference covers

The Digital Euro Conference explores central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), stablecoins, commercial bank money tokens and the future of money, through presentations and panel discussions that give attendees insight into tokenized assets and digital money infrastructure. Sessions have covered the design of a public digital euro and wholesale CBDC models on one side, and programmable money, privacy and offline payments on the other. The knowledge hub answer on the digital euro explains the underlying project the conference tracks: the European Central Bank's plan for a retail CBDC that would sit alongside cash and bank deposits.

Alongside the public digital euro, the conference covers what the DEA calls the private digital euro: euro-denominated stablecoins and other tokens that private issuers bring to market under the EU's MiCA regulation. What are stablecoins? and stablecoin vs CBDC set out how the two forms of digital euro differ.

Who attends, and past editions

The conference draws central banks, commercial banks, infrastructure providers, policymakers and industry experts. Past editions attracted regulators from more than 20 central banks representing over 50 countries, together with technology firms and financial institutions; the DEA counts more than 20 central banks among its own members. A one-day edition with livestreaming for remote participants has drawn more than 300 on-site attendees, more than 260 online participants and over 60 speakers.

The DEA has run the conference in yearly editions under the DEC name with its edition year, such as DEC 2026, also written DEC26. Finance Loop was a partner of DEC 2026, held on March 26, 2026, at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, the day after the Crypto Assets Conference at the same institution. The next edition, DEC 2027 or DEC27, is planned for the same venue.

Sponsors, partners and the venue

The conference has listed technology and financial companies such as Oracle, EY, SWIFT and Deutsche Börse among its sponsors, plus a wider group of event partners spanning blockchain organizations, media outlets and fintech associations across Europe. Its venue, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management at Adickesallee 32-34, hosts multiple stages, networking areas and exhibition booths for the format. Frankfurt School also co-founded the Digital Euro Association, so the conference returns each year to the campus of its organizer's founding partner.

Where does the Digital Euro Conference take place?

The Digital Euro Conference takes place in Frankfurt am Main, at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. The Digital Euro Association, its organizer, is based in the same city, next to Frankfurt's Hauptwache.

Is the Digital Euro Conference part of the ECB or Eurosystem?

No. The Digital Euro Association, which organizes the conference, describes itself as independent and not affiliated with the Eurosystem or any European institution. Speakers from the European Central Bank and national central banks appear at the conference, but the DEA runs it as an independent association.

What is the difference between the public and private digital euro?

The public digital euro is the central bank digital currency the European Central Bank is preparing as a retail CBDC alongside cash. The private digital euro covers euro-denominated stablecoins and other tokens that private issuers bring to market under MiCA. The conference and the DEA's research cover both.
