Satispay

Satispay is a mobile payment app from Milan that lets people pay in stores and online shops with their smartphone and send money to friends in real time. Users link the app to their bank account, and merchants from cafés and pharmacies to supermarket chains accept Satispay at the till with a QR code or online as a payment option at checkout.

Satispay has been on the market since 2015 and counts more than 6.5 million active users in Italy and more than 450,000 partner stores, in person and online. The payment services come from Satispay Europe S.A., an electronic money institution supervised in Luxembourg. Besides payments, the app holds savings and investments, and companies use it to give employees meal vouchers and other benefits.

Paying with the app in stores and online

In a store, the customer scans the Satispay QR code and confirms the amount in the app, and in an online shop the customer picks Satispay at checkout and approves the payment on the phone. Money between users moves in real time, and every payment earns Cashback Points that users turn into discounts at partner stores and in-app services. The app also pays PagoPA notices of the Italian public administration, car and motorcycle road tax, phone top-ups and gift cards.

These payments run over a payment network that Satispay operates itself, so a payment at a partner merchant needs no card scheme between app and till. Satispay is a form of QR code payment, in which the phone of the customer starts the payment at the merchant.

Satispay Business for merchants

Merchants sign up for Satispay Business free of charge and receive their takings on their bank account without a fee. For physical stores, payments under €10 carry no fee and payments of €10 or more cost 0.95 percent, while tobacconists and newsagents pay 0.5 percent above that threshold. Premium plans from €29.90 a month add visibility in the app and extra Cashback Points for customers of the store.

Satispay Business lets Italian merchants meet the legal duty to accept digital payments, and it puts the store in front of more than 6.5 million app users. Large Italian chains in sports, books, cosmetics and fast food accept Satispay next to cafés, pharmacies and market stalls.

Debit cards with Mastercard and an IBAN

In July 2026 Satispay launched three physical debit cards on the Mastercard network, which take Satispay payments to merchants worldwide outside its own network. Each card belongs to one of the plans Plus, Metal and Velvet, with zero foreign-exchange fees on payments in other currencies up to the limits of each plan. Together with the IBAN that Satispay activated at the start of 2026, the app now covers the functions of a payment account.

Upcoming events on payments and digital money

Meal vouchers and employee benefits

Satispay entered corporate welfare in September 2023 with Satispay Meal Vouchers and Fringe Benefits, followed by the FlexBen platform for expense reimbursements and pension fund payments. Employers at 43,000 client companies give their staff these benefits through the app, and the staff spend them at the same network of more than 450,000 merchants. SatisWelfare S.p.A. in Milan provides the welfare services as a separate company of the group.

Satispay Europe S.A. and its license in Luxembourg

Satispay Europe S.A. holds the electronic money license and is entered under number W00000010 in the register of electronic money institutions of the CSSF, the financial supervisor of Luxembourg. The company has its registered office in Luxembourg City, while the investment services come from a second Luxembourg company, Satispay Invest S.A. An e-money license from one EU member state can be passported to the others, which lets the Luxembourg entity serve users in Italy and France.

Italy, France, Luxembourg and Germany

Satispay offers its app in Italy, France and Luxembourg, and the 6.5 million active users that Satispay reports are in Italy. Germany is not among the countries where Satispay offers its app to users and merchants. Merchants in Germany who want account-to-account payments from a phone app can turn to Wero, the wallet of the European Payments Initiative.

Savings, funds, stocks and ETFs in the app

The investment section of the app has half a million users and offers an interest-earning money box, three Satispay investment funds and more than 1,000 stocks and ETFs. A trade costs a fixed €0.89, recurring plans on selected Vanguard ETFs carry no fee, and fractional shares allow investments from €1. Satispay Invest S.A., an investment firm registered with the CSSF, provides these services.
