EDITH Hessen

EDITH is the European Digital Innovation Hub in Hesse, a support network for small and medium-sized businesses, startups and public administrations. EDITH provides free help with planning and implementing digitalization projects. The hub belongs to the EU's Digital Europe Programme, is co-funded by the European Union and is supported by the state of Hesse.

EDITH helps organizations test digital solutions before investing and build the skills needed to use them. Workshops and advice cover artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and advanced digital tools. A consortium coordinated by the House of Digital Transformation runs EDITH with Fraunhofer SIT, hessian.AI, the PTW institute of TU Darmstadt, TechQuartier, GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung and SKAD AG.

What EDITH offers

EDITH works in four fields. With "test before invest", a company tries a digital solution before it spends money on it. "Skills & Training" covers workshops and seminars on digital topics. "Support to find investors" connects firms with sources of funding and capital. The fourth field is the innovation ecosystem and networking. The focus topics are artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high-performance computing and advanced digital tools.

In Frankfurt, TechQuartier leads the networking part of EDITH. TechQuartier runs the EDITH Innovation Day, TechInfusion workshops, scouting, matchmaking and expert roundtables. TechQuartier describes EDITH as one of 230 European Digital Innovation Hubs.

What a digital innovation hub means for finance firms

European Digital Innovation Hubs rest on the Digital Europe Programme, Regulation (EU) 2021/694. For small firms in finance, such as payment institutions, brokers, asset managers and fintechs, the hub's focus topics match their own rulebook. DORA asks more than 20 types of financial entities to manage ICT risk, report major incidents and test their resilience, and the EU AI Act sets duties for AI in credit scoring and insurance pricing.

Testing a cybersecurity or AI tool before buying it fits these rules: a firm learns what the tool does and which data it touches before the contract enters its DORA register of ICT third-party providers. The pages on DORA in Germany and the EU AI Act in financial services explain the duties, and the hub answers on DORA and regtech define the terms.

EDITH Hessen and Finance Loop

EDITH is an event partner of Finance Loop. EDITH supported Finance Loop's Sibos 2025 side event at TechQuartier on 29 September 2025, presented by Frankfurt Main Finance and OKX Institutional. The evening covered payments, blockchain and digital assets for people in institutional finance, across the street from the Sibos venue at Messe Frankfurt. EDITH also supported the real-world asset tokenization evening before the Crypto Assets Conference 2025. An EDITH roll-up also stood on stage at the Chainlink panel at TechQuartier.

What is an EDIH?

EDIH stands for European Digital Innovation Hub. Each hub is a regional one-stop shop, co-funded by the EU under the Digital Europe Programme, that helps companies and public bodies adopt digital technology. EDITH is the hub for Hesse, and the EDIH network links the hubs across Europe.

What does test before invest mean?

Test before invest is an EDIH service: a company tries a digital technology, such as an AI model or a security tool, on its own problem before it invests. For firms in regulated finance, the test also shows early which data leaves the house and what a contract would need to say.

What is the Digital Europe Programme?

The Digital Europe Programme is the EU funding program that brings digital technology to businesses, citizens and public administrations. Set up by Regulation (EU) 2021/694, it funds supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and advanced digital skills, and it co-funds the network of European Digital Innovation Hubs, EDITH in Hesse among them.

Who can use EDITH, and what does it cost?

EDITH serves small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups and public administrations in Hesse, and its support is free of charge. Requests go through edith-hessen.de; events such as the EDITH Innovation Day are announced there and by TechQuartier.
