Frankfurt as a fintech city
Frankfurt builds its fintech scene on top of a finance industry rather than instead of one. The European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank and Deutsche Börse Group sit in the city, and BaFin runs its payments and markets supervision from its Frankfurt office. Startup Genome names fintech and cybersecurity as the fields where Frankfurt's startup ecosystem is strongest, backed by 32 incubators, 24 coworking spaces and 10 accelerators in the city, an ecosystem Startup Genome values at roughly 1.5 billion dollars.
Fintech founders in Frankfurt build close to their first customers: banks, asset managers, insurers and exchanges that sit a few streets away rather than in another country.
TechQuartier: the hub for fintech founders
TechQuartier connects more than 650 startups with corporates, investors, universities and institutions in Frankfurt, and runs a Digital Finance Accelerator built specifically for fintech scale-ups. In 2026 TechQuartier launched the Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt, built for corporate innovation teams, fintech scale-ups, regulators and researchers to test financial technology together, and it took on the payments association Frankfurt Payments Network and the consultancy INNOPAY as new ecosystem partners.
Finance Loop is built in collaboration with TechQuartier, so many of the fintech meetups and panels covered on this site take place there, often in the same rooms TechQuartier uses for its own accelerator cohorts.
Fintech research and rules in Frankfurt
The Frankfurt School Blockchain Center at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management researches blockchain, tokenization and digital assets and runs the Crypto Assets Conference together with Deutsche Börse Group. Frankfurt Main Finance represents the financial center as a whole, connecting banks, fintechs, regulators and policymakers.
A fintech based in Frankfurt follows the same national rules as one anywhere else in Germany: a BaFin license under the Zahlungsdiensteaufsichtsgesetz for a payments business, or under other financial supervision laws for lending, investment or crypto services, and since 2025 the EU's Digital Operational Resilience Act for its IT risk management.
Fintech companies based in Frankfurt
A few names show what Frankfurt fintechs build. Cashlink, founded in 2016 and based at the Deutsche Börse FinTech Hub in Frankfurt, builds blockchain infrastructure for issuing digital securities, the kind of tokenized bond or fund share that banks and issuers in the city now bring to market. Traxpay, also based in Frankfurt, runs a supply chain finance platform for dynamic discounting and reverse factoring between corporates and their suppliers.
Both sell into the same customer base: the banks, corporates and asset managers already in the city, which is the pattern Frankfurt fintechs follow more often than a Berlin or Hamburg consumer app does.
Fintech investors in Frankfurt
CommerzVentures, an independent venture capital firm spun out of Commerzbank and based in Frankfurt, manages roughly 550 million euros across three funds for fintech, insurtech and climate-fintech companies. A founder pitching in Frankfurt outside the bank accelerators often ends up in front of this fund, since few other German cities have a fintech-focused VC of comparable size headquartered locally.

Fintech jobs in Frankfurt sit at TechQuartier's startups and accelerator cohorts, at the digital and innovation teams of Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and the other banks in the city, at BaFin itself for regulatory roles, and at CommerzVentures for people who want to work on the investor side of fintech instead of inside a startup. Fintech meetups and founder evenings such as those Finance Loop supports are a fast way to meet people who already work in these roles.
