EFAMA
EFAMA, the European Fund and Asset Management Association, is the trade association of the investment fund and asset management industry in Europe, based in Brussels. Its members are national fund associations, asset managers as corporate members and further industry firms as associate members. EFAMA estimates the assets under management in Europe at around 34.4 trillion euros.
EFAMA represents the industry toward the EU institutions and international standard setters, on rules such as UCITS, AIFMD, MiFID and sustainability disclosures. Its research team publishes the yearly Fact Book, the Asset Management in Europe report and monthly fund statistics. The association was founded in 1974 as FEFSI and took its current name after a reform in 2004.
Members and membership
EFAMA has three membership categories: national associations, corporate members and associate members. The national associations bring the knowledge of their home markets into the committees, and corporate and associate members add the view of multinational firms and practitioners. Representatives of national associations from 29 countries sit on the EFAMA board, from Austria and Belgium to Turkey and the United Kingdom.
Germany is represented on the board by Thomas Richter, chief executive officer of the BVI. Luxembourg sends Serge Weyland of the fund association ALFI, and Switzerland sends Adrian Schatzmann of the Asset Management Association Switzerland. Members work in standing committees and taskforces, receive the monthly statistics and use a market data section on the members extranet.
President, Director General and board
Samantha Ricciardi of Fidelity International EMEA is president of EFAMA for the term from June 2025 to June 2027, with Micaela Forelli of M&G Investments as vice-president. The board steers the association, approves its strategy and priorities and reports to the General Assembly, and its members serve two-year terms. Tanguy van de Werve is director general of EFAMA and leads a team of more than 20 people in Brussels.
Fact Book and Asset Management in Europe report
The EFAMA Fact Book is the yearly reference on European investment funds, with data on the UCITS and AIF markets, cross-border funds and fund ownership. The 2026 edition adds the number of funds and their average size, the types of funds that insurers and pension funds hold, and the share of European households that own certain financial assets.
The Asset Management in Europe report covers total assets under management in investment funds and discretionary mandates, broken down by the countries where the assets are managed. The 17th edition appeared in 2025 and relies mainly on data from the member associations. The report also shows the clients of asset managers and how the assets are allocated, ESG assets included.

Fund statistics: monthly and quarterly data
EFAMA publishes monthly fact sheets and quarterly statistical releases on the latest trends in the European and international fund industry, including the flows into UCITS. Its key statistics count around 69,000 funds in Europe in the third quarter of 2025, with net assets of 24.5 trillion euros in UCITS and AIFs. More than 5,400 asset management companies employ around 131,000 people directly.
Investment Management Forum
The Investment Management Forum is the annual conference of EFAMA and usually takes place in November. EFAMA calls it the premier European gathering for senior industry executives and policymakers to debate new policy issues. The 2026 edition is hosted at the Chancellerie Auditorium of BNP Paribas Fortis in Brussels, and the association adds webinars and smaller events during the year.
Tokenization and AI in asset management
EFAMA follows the move to tokenized assets along the whole value chain, from the issuance of tokenized funds to trading and settlement on distributed ledgers. In June 2025 it published the report Tokenisation: A Buyside Practitioner's Guide, and in 2026 it commented on the DLT aspects of the Market Integration and Supervision Package of the European Commission.
On artificial intelligence, the EFAMA AI Task Force built the free AI-System Assessment Tool in 2025, which helps firms apply the EU AI Act. By March 2026 the tool had been downloaded 506 times in 31 countries. Together with ALFI, EFAMA runs a benchmarking survey on AI in asset management that is open to asset managers in Europe and beyond.
