Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt
Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt is a finance-focused testing program run by TechQuartier in Frankfurt. Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt brings banks, later-stage fintechs, technology providers, researchers, and public institutions into controlled experiments on emerging financial technology. Teams use a digital sandbox to examine a defined business problem without exposing customer data or production systems.
TechQuartier announced Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt in March 2026 and reported the NayaOne-powered Digital Sandbox live in October. The Open Finance Challenge from Deutsche Bank explores consent-based financial data use with selected later-stage startups. The Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox for more compute-intensive AI tests remains in development with the Sovereign AI Factory FrankfurtRheinMain, Polarise, and NVIDIA.
How the Digital Sandbox works
The Digital Sandbox uses a controlled environment that resembles market and regulatory conditions for financial products. TechQuartier says the first NayaOne-powered platform went live in October 2026, while access for participating organizations is being developed around defined challenges. Synthetic datasets let teams test an idea without putting real customer information or live operations into the experiment.
Financial institutions can assess a proposed technology with fintech teams before deciding whether to pursue, change, or stop a project. A Digital Sandbox test supplies evidence about technical behavior and practical requirements before an implementation decision.
Deutsche Bank Open Finance Challenge
Deutsche Bank was announced as one of the initial industry partners of the Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt in September 2026. The Open Finance Challenge from Deutsche Bank examines how financial data could be used securely with users' consent and established Open Finance standards. TechQuartier plans the Open Finance Challenge with selected later-stage startups around a concrete problem from Deutsche Bank.
The Open Finance Challenge shows how Tech & Data Lab Frankfurt structures a test: Deutsche Bank defines the question, and participating teams test possible answers with synthetic data.
Planned AI testing extension
TechQuartier describes a second tier called the Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox for computing-intensive and near-production tests. TechQuartier named the Sovereign AI Factory FrankfurtRheinMain, Polarise, and NVIDIA as partners in the planned Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox in March 2026. The planned Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox is designed to bring controlled computing capacity to advanced financial AI and data applications.
The Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox remains in development, so teams should confirm current availability directly with TechQuartier. The Digital Sandbox supports current tests, while the Sovereign Supercharged Sandbox targets more demanding assessments after development.
