Web3 Network: investors and experts in digital assets

Web3 Network calls itself a network of investors, experts and decision-makers. Its goal is to explain web3, crypto-assets and blockchain technology to the people who allocate capital, and to join web3 with the traditional financial world. Its best-known format is the Forum für Digitale Vermögenswerte (FDV) in Frankfurt.

Web3 Network is an event and network partner of Finance Loop. The two have worked together on events in Frankfurt and Zurich, and Finance Loop is a partner of the FDV.

What Web3 Network does

The company behind the network is Web3 Network GmbH, based in Munich, according to the imprint of its forum website. Its managing director is Manuel Müller, who also sits on the Finance Loop Advisory Board and coordinates the FDV. Web3 Network names five aims: to build an investor community in web3, to promote joint projects and investments, to help its members decide on an informed basis, to connect leaders from different sectors, and to find new business opportunities.

The format that carries these aims is the event. The FDV is held in German and, by the description on this site, gathers more than 200 professional market participants: institutional investors, family offices, venture and private equity funds, banks, asset managers and advisors to wealthy clients. Its topics are tokenized securities, digital custody, market infrastructure, MiCAR, compliance and risk management.

Digital assets for investors: the field Web3 Network works in

Digital assets are assets that exist as electronic records and change hands without a paper certificate. The term covers a bond issued on a distributed ledger as well as bitcoin and stablecoins. EU law uses a narrower term, the crypto-asset, in the MiCA regulation. An advisor to wealthy clients meets digital assets today in three forms: exchange-traded products such as crypto ETPs, tokenized funds, and direct holdings kept by a licensed custodian.

Each form has its own rulebook. Advice on crypto-assets and portfolio management of crypto-assets are services under MiCA, and a firm that offers them in Germany needs a license from BaFin or, as a bank or investment firm, a notification to BaFin. Tokenized securities stay under securities law and, in Germany, under the law on electronic securities (eWpG). The page on institutional crypto covers how banks and asset managers set up custody and access.
