XRP Ledger

The XRP Ledger is a payments-focused blockchain network built for fast settlement and low fees, with cross-border transfers that finish in three to five seconds. Its native token is XRP, and Ripple's dollar stablecoin RLUSD runs on the ledger alongside euro stablecoins EURCV and EURØP.

What the XRP Ledger is built for

A bank moving money across a border today routes it through correspondent accounts and messaging networks that can take days to settle. XRPL.org describes the XRP Ledger as an open, public blockchain optimized for fast settlement and low fees, with a built-in decentralized exchange and native tokenization support, used by banks, asset managers, payment service providers and fintechs to build financial products. XRP, the ledger's native asset, settles a cross-border transfer in three to five seconds and bridges between currencies with predictable liquidity, without a firm having to hold a balance in every currency it settles.

Ripple, the company that helped start the XRP Ledger and remains its largest contributor, builds enterprise payment, liquidity and custody software on top of it; Ripple itself is a company, while the ledger is the open network XRP runs on and that other issuers, including banks, use directly.

RLUSD, EURCV and EURØP: stablecoins on the ledger

Ripple USD (RLUSD), Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin, became available on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum on December 17, 2024, fully backed by dollar deposits, US government bonds and cash equivalents. Societe Generale-FORGE, the digital-assets arm of French bank Societe Generale, deployed its euro stablecoin EURCV on the XRP Ledger on February 18, 2026, the second network to carry the token after Ethereum, with Ripple Custody powering the integration. EURØP, a euro-backed stablecoin from Schuman Financial, also runs live on the ledger for European users and businesses, alongside dollar stablecoins USDC and USDB.

A bank or payment firm that settles in euros can now choose between several regulated stablecoins on the same ledger instead of building separate rails for each currency, provided its own license covers holding or transferring the token it picks.

Aviva Investors: a tokenized fund on the XRP Ledger

Aviva Investors, the asset management arm of UK insurer Aviva, partnered with Ripple to tokenize fund structures on the XRP Ledger and, on July 29, 2026, issued a tokenized share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on the ledger, its first product built this way. The structure was approved by the Central Bank of Ireland, and the fund keeps Bank of New York Mellon as custodian of the underlying assets while Komainu, a regulated institutional digital-asset custodian, holds the tokenized layer; tokenization infrastructure came from Licuido.

This is Ripple's first partnership with a European asset manager, and it shows the pattern European institutions use to add a blockchain layer to an existing fund without changing who holds the underlying assets or which regulator oversees the fund itself.

How a MiCA-regulated firm reaches the XRP Ledger

Ripple holds a full MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider license from Luxembourg's financial regulator CSSF, which clears it to offer regulated crypto payment services across the European Economic Area; that license covers Ripple's own services, not every stablecoin issued on the ledger, and RLUSD itself is not yet offered to EU retail investors on MiCA-regulated exchanges. A euro stablecoin such as EURCV instead carries its own e-money token authorization under MiCAR, tied to its issuer, in EURCV's case Societe Generale-FORGE. A German bank or fund that wants to custody XRP or a stablecoin on the XRP Ledger still needs its own BaFin crypto custody license under the KWG, the same requirement Finance Loop's page on euro stablecoins under MiCA sets out for other issuers.

How the XRP Ledger gets outside data

The XRP Ledger added a native Price Oracle feature under the XLS-47 amendment, which lets a small set of trusted providers publish a price directly on the ledger for features such as its automated market maker and lending protocols. Band Protocol and DIA are the providers RippleX named for that feature; Chainlink is not a confirmed integration on the XRP Ledger the way it is on Ethereum or, since 2026, on Stellar. A firm that needs Chainlink's specific tooling, such as CCIP for moving a token to another chain, currently looks at those other networks instead; Finance Loop's pages on Chainlink and oracle networks cover how Chainlink, Pyth and RedStone serve banks and asset managers on the chains where they operate.

Upcoming blockchain and digital asset events

Finance Loop and stablecoin payments on the XRP Ledger

Finance Loop is a strategic partner of the Digital Euro Association, whose Digital Euro Conference covers euro stablecoins next to the digital euro, and supported the Bybit EU x Circle Roadshow in Frankfurt, with panels on stablecoins, USDC and EURC. Payments networks such as the XRP Ledger and their stablecoin issuers sit in Finance Loop's Payments & Digital Money track, alongside the digital euro and instant-payments topics its events in Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and Hamburg cover.

What is the XRP Ledger used for?

The XRP Ledger carries cross-border payments and settlement, stablecoin issuance and, increasingly, tokenized funds such as Aviva Investors' US Dollar Liquidity Fund share class. Its built-in decentralized exchange and automated market maker let a user or institution trade between assets on the ledger directly.

What is the difference between XRP and the XRP Ledger?

The XRP Ledger is the blockchain; XRP is the native token that runs on it and pays its transaction fees. Ripple is a separate company that builds payment and custody software on top of the ledger and holds a large XRP balance, but Ripple, XRP and the XRP Ledger are three distinct things.

Are there euro stablecoins on the XRP Ledger?

Yes. Societe Generale-FORGE's EURCV has run on the XRP Ledger since February 2026, and EURØP from Schuman Financial is also live on the ledger. Both sit alongside Ripple's own dollar stablecoin RLUSD.

Does the XRP Ledger work with banks and asset managers?

Yes. Aviva Investors issued a tokenized share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on the ledger with Ripple, approved by the Central Bank of Ireland, and Societe Generale-FORGE issues its EURCV stablecoin on it. Ripple itself holds a MiCA license from Luxembourg's CSSF covering crypto payment services across the EEA.

XRP Ledger and Finance Loop

Stablecoin issuers and payments partners active on the XRP Ledger sit in Finance Loop's Payments & Digital Money track, next to the digital euro and instant-payments topics Finance Loop covers with the Digital Euro Association and at events such as the Bybit EU x Circle Roadshow in Frankfurt. Finance Loop connects the finance, IT and AI communities working on these networks across Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and Hamburg.

Finance Loop is a professional network and has the goal of driving the adoption of emerging technologies in finance, such as AI, tokenization, stablecoins, and DeFi.
