Julius Baer

Julius Baer is a Swiss wealth management group with its head office in Zurich, and it works solely for private clients and their families. The principal operating company is Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd., a Swiss private bank whose origins go back to 1890, and the shares of Julius Baer Group Ltd. trade on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Besides classic portfolio management, clients can hold crypto tokens with the bank, and employees work with JAI, a generative AI assistant built by Julius Baer. Crypto tokens and custody with AMINA Bank

In February 2019, Julius Baer agreed a partnership with SEBA, a crypto start-up in Zug in which the bank had made a minority investment the year before. After SEBA received its license from FINMA, Julius Baer launched digital asset services in January 2020 for clients booked in Switzerland. The services covered storage and transactions, and clients saw conventional and digital assets together in one portfolio overview. SEBA is now called AMINA Bank, and it holds the tokens of Julius Baer clients as sub-custodian, in hot and cold storage.

Clients can invest directly in crypto tokens or indirectly through exchange-traded products, structured products, funds and alternative strategies. In 2025, Julius Baer expanded its crypto token offering to 20 tokens that clients can trade, hold in custody and transfer. Every incoming transfer passes a forensic blockchain analysis of the wallet address and a proof-of-ownership check. On a case-by-case basis, clients can also pledge crypto tokens as collateral to meet their financing needs.

JAI, Wealth Navigator and AI in compliance

JAI is the generative AI assistant that Julius Baer built for its employees, and it runs on the premises of the bank, so client data stays under its control. Since its launch in 2024, JAI has become part of daily work, and the vast majority of employees use it for tasks such as translations and searches in investment research. An AI Risk Management Framework and mandatory training set the rules for this use.

Relationship managers work in Wealth Navigator, an advisory platform for wealth planning, investment advice, discretionary mandates and research, with AI tools that suggest investments. In the first half of 2026, the bank extended direct order placement in Wealth Navigator from Singapore and Hong Kong to its booking center in Switzerland. In compliance, an AI layer checks names and news reports in client screening, and a payment AI agent processes payment instructions with fewer errors.

Julius Baer is the first financial institution to join the Swiss National AI Institute, which ETH Zurich and EPFL run together. The bank started its AI work in 2021 with a small team in Singapore that tested voice-to-text solutions and early tools to support advisors.

Supervision and the banks in Germany and Luxembourg

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA supervises the Julius Baer Group as a whole. Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. has branches in Zurich, Geneva, Lugano, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Singapore and other places. In the European Union, the group owns Bank Julius Bär Deutschland AG in Frankfurt, which has nine further offices in Germany, among them Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

Bank Julius Baer Europe S.A. has its seat in Luxembourg and branches in Dublin, Madrid, Milan and Lisbon. The branches in Italy and Portugal were added in 2025, and the bank also has an office in Barcelona.
