Between the Towers

Between the Towers was a fintech meetup series in Frankfurt organized by neosfer, the innovation and investment unit of Commerzbank. The series connected startup founders, investors and people working on innovation at established financial institutions. Presentations and informal discussion gave participants a place to exchange ideas about developments in financial technology.

Between the Towers formed part of the work of neosfer connecting young technology companies with the banking sector. The meetings covered subjects such as banking innovation, artificial intelligence and changes in the fintech industry. The final Between the Towers event took place on 16 June 2026; neosfer has since closed, and no further events in the series are scheduled.

The fintech evenings at Main Incubator and neosfer

Between the Towers started as a fintech event run by Main Incubator, the early Commerzbank incubator arm. Over its first two years, the format grew to more than 30 editions in Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, with more than 3,000 participants and over 100 startup pitches across those events. The Frankfurt edition typically drew around 100 guests for an evening of keynote talks, startup pitches and networking, with topics from the wider fintech scene, including one edition built around hiring and talent in fintech startups. A 2016 review of the format called it one of the best fintech events in the Frankfurt scene at the time, strong on networking and deal-making even when a keynote or a pitch fell flat.

Main Incubator later became neosfer, and Between the Towers continued as its regular afterwork format. Between the Towers ran on the first Tuesday evening of the month, on the 7th floor of the neosfer office, with free admission and networking on the roof terrace in summer or inside with a skyline view in winter. By its ninth year, in a year-end recap published in December 2023, the event had become hybrid, streamed on LinkedIn and in a Decentraland Lounge, and had moved from a monthly format to occasional larger gatherings, that year with about 80 guests and three keynote talks on the fintech industry, interest rates, AI adoption and ESG.

Why Between the Towers ended

Commerzbank decided to close neosfer. The bank announced the closure in June 2026, and the unit went out of business on 29 September 2026, after 13 years of operation under managing directors Kai Werner and Matthias Lais. The bank kept its separate corporate venture capital team, CommerzVentures, under managing partners Paul Morgenthaler and Patrick Meisberger. With neosfer gone, Between the Towers has no host left to run it.
